Geniet van een privétrip per directieauto of minibus naar Meteora, de kloosters die op de werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO staan. Meteora betekent "midden in de hemel", en met hun verheven hoogtes en bijna mystieke ontoegankelijkheid lijken de Metéora-kloosters naar de hemel te stijgen en weerspiegelen ze het menselijke streven naar heiligheid. Kom langs natuurlijk gevormde grotten waar de eerste kluizenaars woonden en bewonder de adembenemende uitzichten. Na de fascinerende rondleiding door de 3 meest toegankelijke kloosters kunt u genieten van een heerlijke lunch met Griekse traditionele gerechten en “Mezedes” in het pittoreske dorpje Kastraki. Op de terugweg naar Athene stopt u bij Thermopylae, waar een van de meest epische veldslagen aller tijden plaatsvond. 300 Spartanen stonden tegenover het Perzische leger en hielden hen 2 dagen tegen. Na de fascinerende rondleiding door de 3 meest toegankelijke kloosters, kunt u genieten van een heerlijke lunch met traditionele Griekse gerechten en "Mezedes" in het pittoreske dorp Kastraki.
Adembenemend surrealistisch en sereen spiritueel, de Metéora-kloosters ontspringen uit een dromerig landschap van rotsachtige megalieten in de vlaktes van de Thessalië-vallei. De eerste kluizenaars kwamen naar deze afgelegen uithoek van Griekenland, minstens al in de 11e eeuw om zich terug te trekken uit de wereld en het goddelijke te overwegen. In de 14e eeuw begonnen christelijk-orthodoxe monniken hier kloosters te bouwen. Oorspronkelijk stonden er 24 kloosters op deze verbazingwekkende locatie, gebouwd op de randen van duizelingwekkende kliffen of op steile zandsteenformaties van wel 300 meter hoog. Met hun verheven hoogten en bijna mystieke ontoegankelijkheid lijken de Metéora-kloosters naar de hemel te stijgen en weerspiegelen ze het menselijke streven naar heiligheid. Gelieve bescheiden gekleed te zijn. Vrouwen wordt aangeraden lange rokken en lange mouwen te dragen. Als je die niet hebt, krijg je een rok bij je weg naar binnen.
Op weg terug naar Athene, stop bij Thermopylae, waar een van de meest epische veldslagen aller tijden plaatsvond. 300 Spartanen stonden tegenover het Perzische leger en stopten hen gedurende 2 dagen. Zie het slagveld en het standbeeld van koning Leonidas.

Ophaallocaties en -tijden
-We halen op van alle accommodaties in Athene. Voor het gebied van airport pick-up / drop off is er extra kosten, neem dan contact met ons op. -Aanbevolen outfit voor vrouwen is lange rok of lange jurk. Als je dat niet hebt, krijg je daar een sjaal om om je middel te doen, ( 3€ kosten ) of als je er een hebt kun je hetzelfde doen. Voor mannen is het raadzaam om een lange broek te dragen. Ook de kloosters accepteren geen kaarten dus neem contant geld bij u. Het is 5€ per persoon per klooster.

Today took a day trip to Meteora, the overall experience was great and exceeded expectations. The tour started with a visit to the Battlefield and Museum of the Three Hundred Warriors in Sparta, which gave us a deeper understanding of ancient Greek history and added a cultural and historical background to the subsequent journey. Upon arrival in Medellín, we actually visited 2 of the 6 monasteries and admired the spectacular views of the rest of the monasteries at several sights along the way. Although not entering all the monasteries, panoramic photos of the 6 monasteries taken from the outside are stunning from every angle. The enormous rock columns and architecture perfectly merge, as if in a fairy tale world, the view is both magical and majestic. The most memorable is the peace of mind brought by the whole Medellín. Even with other visitors, there is still a peaceful and sacred atmosphere, allowing people to slow down and quietly enjoy the wonders created by nature and human faith. Lunch arranged in the town under the Medeora mountain, the environment is quiet and comfortable, residents and shoppers are very friendly and warm, is a good place to relax. If you are coming to Greece, I highly recommend arranging a day trip to Medellín. The spectacular scenery, the deep historical culture and the immersive atmosphere make this trip one of the most memorable memories of this trip to Greece.

Magical day at Meteroa. Our guide Theo T was very warm and friendly, very informative and chatty so we learnt a lot about ordinary life of Athenians. Speaks v good English. Theo was good with avoiding big crowds and timed our stops perfectly. Do request for Theo T for anything Athens.

Mr. George was an absolute font of knowledge. It was a long day, but comfortable and totally worth it to see and experience all that we saw and did. The snacks were plenty and the choice for dinner was phenomenal. I highly recommend this tour.

It was approximately a little less than a four hour car ride each way, but the experience was totally worth it. Our driver Georgios was friendly and very informative, and his car was quite comfortable. He was very accommodating as far as stopping whenever we wanted for food or photo shoots at scenic locations. We visited three different monasteries, and while we had a favorite, each one was most enjoyable. The views were terrific and the monasteries were so interesting. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us, and we are very happy we decided to include this trip in our itinerary'

Going to Meteora from Athens is a time commitment, but we would say it's well worth the journey. The monasteries focus on a period of Greek history -- the 14th c. on -- that gives visitors a look at something different from the ancient. Perched on high rocks cliffs, the monasteries are spirtual and otherworldly. Any photos you or anyone takes will be a completely inadequate representation of what you see with your own eyes. Yes, the drive there and back takes a long time, but the countryside reminded us a lot of Southern California and is pretty to look at.
