This is an absolute must do! Be sure to ask for Edgar. The extent of his knowledge as a tour guide but more importantly through his formal education offers extensive insight into the Mayan culture and history. The fact that he’s humorous also helps to keep things lively. He speaks Spanish and English. For your lunch selection I recommend Denny’s. If you eat pork try the pubil which is slow roasted and much like ropa vieja/pulled pork. The stop at San Ignacio will give you tremendous insight into how the locals shop and eat. One tip- you will be climbing the ruins so wear appropriate shoes, apply sunblock, carry water and bring your sunglasses.
