The tour was great. Mohammed was knowledgeable about the area, Egyptian and Bedouin culture, and speaks excellent English (among other languages!) so was really able to provide great insight along the way. His family has been doing tours for 40 years and they're obviously highly experienced. It was clear we were with a local. He is also very skilled with camera phones and knows where to get the best compositions, so you can expect to come away with some great photos of yourself from the tour; no need to worry about them being crooked or having your legs chopped out of the frame! As for the landscape itself, I wasn't sure what to expect and as someone who often travels in part to take landscape photos, I didn't know how it would stack up with other scenic places I've been. I was pleasantly surprised that the White Desert and Valley of Agabat, in particular, were in fact very beautiful, unique landscapes that would fit right in among the national parks in the Southwestern US. The late-day and early-day light on the white limestone formations of the White Desert was gorgeous. The dinner was cooked very nicely and included enough food after a long day, the tent was comfortable and it's always awesome to wake up to a sunrise in a beautiful location. Having dinner under the stars in a remote spot and thinking, "Wow, I'm in the Western Desert in Egypt!" was a neat experience. There are always some limitations with a one -night trip that involves a lot of driving, as you never get to spend as much time in a spot before you need to move on. But, if you're someone who enjoys some variety in your vacations and want to break up the hectic pace of Cairo and mix in an outdoor experience among all of the historical site visits, I definitely recommend taking a trip to the White Desert and going with Mohammed is a great way to do it. *Note to anyone who might be interested in doing a photography-specific trip, or a trip of a different length or focus -- Mohammed said that he can accommodate that and you could work directly with him to arrange a trip to your specifications. He specifically mentioned that adding an additional day provides the ability to go deeper into the White Desert to spend extended time in the wild rock formations. In hindsight, I wish I had done that to have more time photographing the area. *
Underwhelming experience for the price paid ($120USD) , not enough food and poor sleeping conditions. Nothing like the pictures that are shown, whole experience was done by us, tour guide will tell you ok go outside car and explore I’m in the car. No history not facts nothing. Extremely disappointed. I have done Bedouin night dessert tours in other places, this is nothing short of a rip off. Extremely greedy people, swearing in Arabic at their customers who wanted more food. Glorified taxi service if anything. No campfire no music nothing.
"I would like to clarify that some of the points mentioned in your review are not accurate, especially since the exact same comment was also posted by your brother, who was on the same trip. I did not neglect any explanations or arrangements; I was in contact with you from the beginning. Regarding the food, I asked several times during the trip if you needed more, and you always said everything was fine. As for the sandstorm, it was a sudden, unexpected event beyond anyone’s control, and safety always came first. I had two private tents prepared for you with warm blankets and sleeping bags. As for the transport price, we discussed everything clearly more than a month before your trip. You tried to negotiate several times, and I explained that the price was fixed, which you agreed to before confirming the booking. I always respect my guests' opinions, but it is important that the review reflects the full reality fairly and honestly."
This experience was unfortunately not worth the price. The trip began with a 4-hour drive into the desert in a car without proper A/C, which already set the tone for the experience. Once we arrived at the guide’s house, he offered some food, but after a 4-hour ride it was nowhere near enough. Regardless, we continued with the tour. Throughout the experience, we were mostly left to explore on our own while the guide stayed in the car. Very little effort was made to explain the history, geology, or significance of the places we visited. It felt more like having a driver than an actual guide. Things became especially concerning when we encountered a sandstorm around sunset. Our guide seemed completely unprepared and even struggled to use Google Maps properly. At one point, we had to use our own phones to navigate and guide him to the campsite. After hours of driving through the storm, we finally arrived at a tent shared with groups from several other tour operators. Dinner was extremely disappointing. The amount of food provided was nowhere near enough for the size of the group. Each person received a very small serving of rice and one piece of chicken. I understand Arabic, and when another guest politely asked for more food, one of the guides responded very rudely and swore at him. Completely unprofessional. The photos advertising large traditional platters were very misleading compared to what was actually served. Because of the sandstorm, there was no campfire or music as advertised, yet no refund or compensation was offered for the missing experience. The sleeping arrangements were also poorly handled. Our guide had not prepared for the weather conditions and had to ask other guides for extra tents and blankets. Communication was minimal, and very little was explained to us. When we asked for water, we were simply told to get it ourselves. The tent we slept in had holes, and in the morning we noticed centipede tracks nearby. Thankfully nobody was harmed, but no one explained any potential desert hazards or safety precautions beforehand. The tour guides slept in big tents ontop of tables, whereas we slept on the ground, outside. Breakfast was equally disappointing: packaged honey and jam, stale bread, one boiled egg and old fruit. The “authentic desert food” advertised turned out to be mostly store-bought items. The pricing also felt excessive for the level of service provided. Ontop of the tour fees, I paid $120 USD for transportation from Cairo to the oasis, expecting a higher-quality private transfer, but it was simply a basic taxi-for-hire with minimal A/C. I confirmed with the drivers both ways, and the driver was being paid a fraction of what we were charged (1000 EGP). I would have been fine paying a premium if the service matched the price, but unfortunately it consistently fell short. In total, the experience cost us around $800 CAD, and by the end it honestly felt more like a money grab than a genuine hospitality or cultural experience. The White Desert itself is beautiful, but I would strongly recommend booking with a different operator. Personally, I would avoid this one entirely.
I am honestly shocked by your review because many of the points mentioned do not reflect what actually happened during the trip. Regarding the transfer from Cairo, you spoke directly with the driver yourself and he confirmed that the A/C was working properly. During the 4-hour drive, you were sleeping most of the time. About the food, I asked you several times during the trip if you needed more food or anything else, and every time you answered that everything was fine. Throughout the tour, I explained the history and information about each place we visited and also helped with taking photos at every stop. As for the sandstorm, this was a sudden weather condition completely outside of anyone’s control. Safety always comes first, and because the wind speed was extremely high, it was impossible and unsafe to make a campfire or continue some planned activities. You personally witnessed how strong the weather conditions were. Regarding the overnight camping, you had two private tents, warm blankets, and sleeping bags prepared for you. We also did our best to make everyone comfortable despite the unexpected storm conditions. Concerning the transportation price, we discussed everything clearly more than one month before your arrival. You tried to negotiate the price several times, and I explained that the transportation cost was fixed. In the end, you agreed to the price before confirming the booking. We always respect every guest’s opinion, but it is also important that the review reflects the full reality of the experience fairly and honestly.
It was one of the best experience I’ve ever had. Our guide Mohammed was very friendly and fun. He genuinely seemed to be trying to let us have the best time and we DID had the best time. He explained our plan very clearly at the safari desert home and what we expect on the two-day tour. We saw black desert, valley of obstacles, crystal mountain and as the sun goes down we headed towards the camping sight in the old white desert. While we were walking around, he built a tent and made fire, even he cooked dinner for us. Originally, we booked this tour to see the stars but we couldn’t see them really clearly because it was almost full moon. However, this tour was much more than I expected and even we couldn’t see the sky full of stars, it was worth a while. I don’t want to sound dramatic but staying in a desert with my friend and Mohammed over night really allowed me to feel I was so happy to be alive.
Muhammad, our guide, was able to do everything by himself and was like a wizard in the desert. They understood my poor English very well, and I enjoyed the conversations we had sitting on the road and near the campfire. The sun was setting on the horizon, the sky was changing colors, the stars were gradually visible, and by the time the campsite was set up, it was a perfect starry night. I was moved to tears. ・The explanation is concise and easy to understand ・I had free time to take pictures and see details at my own pace ・He was familiar with the camera function of the iPhone and took perfect pictures of the starry sky beautifully (sometimes even giving me posing instructions) ・The rice they made during the camp was delicious · I was impressed by his careful, smooth and watchable actions in preparing and clearing the campsite · Transfers between Cairo and Baharia Oasis are also polite, with toilet breaks · The base we stop at before we go on the desert tour is a quiet, pleasant breeze, with his kind mother, and a truly oasis We thank you for Muhammad's love for Japan, so far away. If you're going to Egypt, you definitely should go to the Baharia Oasis as well as Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel. And have a good time in the desert with Muhammad. It will be a great memory!!
We had an amazing desert camping experience, all thanks to Khozam’s excellent planning and warm hospitality. As a small, family-run business, they deliver a consistently personal and high-quality experience that truly stands out. Everything was seamlessly arranged—from our hotel pickup in Cairo to a delicious home-cooked lunch prepared by his mother, and the many incredible sights along the way. The candlelit dinner in the desert and late-night tea under the stars were unforgettable highlights. Khozam is also a talented photographer who captured some fantastic moments for us. He even helped arrange a taxi transfer to Luxor for an additional fee, making our journey completely hassle-free. This was easily one of the best experiences of our trip to Egypt. highly recommended!
We joined this 1-night, 2-day desert tour as a mother and daughter. Even though we booked it the day before, communication was smooth and easy. This company is family-run, and with many years of experience guiding in the White Desert, they have deep knowledge of the area. Mohamed was outstanding — his 4WD driving skills, fluent English, cooking, and photography were all excellent. What impressed us the most, however, was his wonderful personality. We would definitely love to join a 2-night, 3-day tour next time. These photos were taken by Mohamed.
What we experienced during those two days was extra ordinary. Muhamed and his family were so nice and welcoming. Me and my friend enjoyed every moment of this desert tour. We took breaks on the nice spots of the deserts. Spending our time slowly on this never ending desert was quite the experience.🌅 We spent the night at the desert. They have all the equipment for the camping and the dinner preparation. We ate dinner with other people all together around the floor table and camped. This wasn't bothering at all. They were nice people. 😊 The meal was tasty: rice, chicken, salad, boiled vegetables, drink. 🙏😊😋 So if you are looking for adventure and a peace of mind from noice and crowd, a sky with full of stars is waiting for you. 🌠🌌
My husband, two of our adult sons and one son’s girlfriend, spent three unforgettable days and two nights in the Black and White Deserts and Agabat Valley with Mohammed and his younger brother, Mahmoud. From the moment they arranged our transfer from Cairo to their home base in Bawiti, everything was seamless. We were warmly welcomed by their wonderful family—smiling mother, sister, nephews, and father, who founded the business years ago. Mohammed comes from a Bedouin family with generations of desert knowledge and his deep connection to the landscape is evident. The desert scenery was breathtaking and constantly changing—dramatic rock formations, vast sandy plains and volcanic terrain. The food was outstanding, the camping equipment very comfortable and the evenings blissfully quiet in remote locations far from other tours, with spectacular stargazing. We were even visited by a very friendly and adorable desert fox, cautiously keeping its distance but happily scampering off with the leftover dinner bones. Mohammed is not only incredibly friendly, but an exceptional guide, cook, and photographer, and together with Mahmoud we felt completely safe and well cared for throughout. An authentic, beautifully run desert experience that we would wholeheartedly recommend.
★★★★★ Unforgettable White Desert adventure — Mohammed Khozam & Mahmoud are the dream team We spent 3 days / 2 nights in Egypt’s White Desert with Mohammed Khozam and his brother Mahmoud, and I can honestly say it was one of the most extraordinary travel experiences I’ve ever had. From the very beginning, it was obvious we were in the hands of people who know the desert intimately. They took us to the best secluded locations, far away from the crowds, where it felt like we had the White Desert completely to ourselves. Every stop felt thoughtfully chosen — not just “nice views,” but genuinely jaw-dropping scenery and landscapes that constantly changed and surprised us. The rock formations, the open silence, the sense of scale… it’s hard to put into words. Mohammed and Mahmoud are incredibly capable, calm, and professional, and also genuinely warm and fun to be around. Mohammed in particular is great company — upbeat, funny, and the sort of person who makes everyone feel relaxed immediately. And the food… wow. They are amazing cooks. Every meal felt fresh, generous, and delicious — the kind of food you can’t believe is being produced out in the desert. It wasn’t just “camp food,” it was genuinely something to look forward to. A special mention has to go to Mohammed’s photography — he is quite simply the best photographer. He knows exactly where to place you, how to frame the landscape, and when the light is perfect. We came home with photos that look like they belong in a magazine. The highlight for me was the early wake-up to see the stars. Standing out there in complete darkness, with a sky absolutely packed with stars, was like nothing I’ve ever experienced — pure magic, and something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. If you’re considering the White Desert, don’t overthink it — book with Mohammed Khozam and Mahmoud. They deliver the perfect combination of adventure, comfort, safety, expertise, and fun — and they’ll take you to a White Desert that feels wild, private, and truly unforgettable. Highly, highly recommended.
