It is so important to get the app set up and working in the hotel BEFORE you drive into the park. Also, the Victor's Center is a good place to start to view the videos before to gain a greater appreciation of what the soldiers, as well as the civilians, we up against as they fought the battle. Its so hard to believe the sacrifices they made for their cause. Be aware the Visitors Center is closed Tuesdays.

This was a great experience to understand the intensity of the civil war. The National Park app's free self guided tour helps one understand the strategies and events of the siege, and the paid 3rd party app adds even more detail. We were glad we had both. High points for me were the view from the top of Fort Hill, and the Cairo museum. A must see for any Civil War history buffs, but a touching visit for anyone.

Absolutely amazing. We’ve never been in this area. The audio tour had so much information you could close your eyes and visualize what it was like. It’s beautiful preserved and easily to drive and visit. Bluetooth to the radio for the best experience.

What an amazing battlefield! The guided audio tour was perfect as we kept a leisurely pace as I liked to read the plaques on the important sites. It is amazing to see all the earthen work such as the redoubts and redans from the Confederacy position. The U.S.S. Cairo ironclad is not to be missed. I had no idea those were so large! The artifacts salvaged were very interesting. Prepare to spend several hours. I'm a history buff and I was greatly impressed.

Park is overly busy with monuments. The tour does a good job describing the battle but it’s choppy and fast ending the monument being described can be tough Even with that said, the tour is WAY better than just driving through. For the money it’s a great deal
