We found it a stressful and depressing visit. I want to make it clear that this opinion is not addressed to the lady who accompanied us on the visit, she is limited to complying with the instructions that some manager or owner gives her and is NOT at fault. We start with the lack of punctuality in the beginning of the visit, they can not put such strict rules of meeting before the time of it, opening time of door, etc... and then do something else, I have read some complaint of a visitor upset that he arrived late at the start time and they did not want to open the doors and the answer of someone with capacity to do it and this has influenced that now they are acting the other way around, for not leaving at the door someone who is late, they prefer to waste time to those who do respect the rules imposed by them. The world backwards. THE ROYAL VISIT BEGAN 15 MINUTES LATER. The actual duration of the visit was exactly 29 minutes and the price of the normal fare 15 euros. Too expensive for what they offer, considering that what could be an interesting and relaxed visit turns into something cold and stressful, a kind of supervised release where an employee acts as a watchdog who would get alert whenever you looked for a place she didn’t think was right, come on, turn your head to look away. INSISTENCE: This lady is not to blame at all, she simply does the boss's bidding. It’s a little surprising that they don’t let even a simple photograph of an inner courtyard be taken, possibly to avoid that prospective customers can check and assess whether it’s worth paying to see. It all comes down to seeing some very nice antique furniture, some interesting tapestries and a superb marble staircase. The palace is very large but practically they do not teach you anything, except what has already been sung, which together with the tense atmosphere caused by the lady who wanted us all firm and without moving and her inquisitive looks, because they created a tense and unfriendly climate for those who like me, like to enjoy the details. It was a bit painful to see how on an office table and surrounded by antique utensils even beautifully carved ivory, add as a prop modern Chinese scissors that cost 3.5 euros or a colorful roll holder like the ones that primary school children take to school. Better get it off. IN SUMMARY: It is expensive for what they offer and the short time of the visit that is made with audioguide but under the inquisitive watch of the employee who was even upset when someone lagged a couple of meters from the place where he demanded to locate us. They were punctual in fulfilling the schedules that they themselves set, they ask to be there 10 minutes early but to begin the visit 15 minutes later (announced at the hours sharp) because of the stoppage suffered with those who arrived late and the corresponding entrance payments, with clear detriment of those who were punctual. Almost half an hour lost for half an hour visit. They seem to give you a gift when briefly going out to the garden outside the main facade they fill their mouths saying that there if you can take a photo, when the reality is that being so close to the facade it is impossible to do a good shot of the building, especially when from the street a good photo is perfectly made, so the only memory you take can do it from the outside and free. Given these circumstances, it is NOT worth the visit.
Hemos leído su opinión. La puntualidad es un principio fundamental en la organización de nuestras visitas. Agradecemos su visita.
Very enjoyable...we went on a Sunday when few things are open in Jerez. It is a guided tour so you are not allowed to go off on your own. The audio handset works well and is informative with just the right level of info. At an hour long about the right length for a very interesting building.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience, we are very glad you enjoyed your visit.
I arrived a few minutes late for the tour with audioguide only to find the door locked and no response to the intercom despite trying for over 10 minutes. There's no warning of such a strict policy on the website.
Dear Steven, Thank you for your comment and we would like to inform you that, as detailed on our website in the Visitor Information section (https://palaciodomecq.com/en/visits/), it is clearly stated that it is not possible to enter the Palace once the tour has started. Please see below “NOTE: A visit time is allocated to each ticket. Once the tour has started it will not be possible to enter the Palace. It is essential to arrive 10 minutes in advance.” It is normal for people who are late to be admitted in the next hour, as long as there are places available. If you ever come back to Jerez and contact us in advance, we would be delighted to welcome you for make your visit (please bring the ticket of the visit you missed). Best regards.
