Very nice campsite and very well located in carnac
Sabaidee, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, but we think this may have been intended for a different business. The Hiker Laos is a trekking tour operator based in Luang Namtha, northern Laos, specializing in jungle treks, kayaking, and cultural homestay experiences. We do not operate any camping services in Carnac, France. It sounds like you had a lovely experience at a campsite in Carnac, and we're genuinely happy for you! However, we kindly ask that you consider reposting your review to the correct business page so that your feedback reaches the right team. Or if you have really experienced with us as the mentioned title of the program "The Wild Explorer", please feel free to clarify the right location and experience, really appreciated. If you will find yourself in Laos again soon, we would be honored to welcome you to visit and trek with us here in Luang Namtha region. Kind regards, The Hiker Laos Team.
We did a 3-day hike with two homestays (we asked for a modification of the itinerary which was one night camping and one homestay). We hiked to Nam Vang the first day, and then to Lahou the second day. The experience was as authentic as it gets, no souvenir shops and plays, just daily life you get to see in the villages. The hike on the first day was 11,5km, up and down through the forest, while second and third day hike down were shorter and on an easy trail. Our guide Xai was amazing, spoke good english and cooked great meals. Wong was also with as on the first day and was a joy to be around. You carry two large water bottles and your sleeping bag, with personal belongings. We slept well both nights, it was warm in the sleeping bags. All in all, we got a fair bit on hiking, especially on the first day and a true glimpse into the life of remote villages in Laos, which I feel is a rare thing to find in more touristy areas.
Sabaidee, Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review of your 3-day customized trek. We are delighted that the experience provided the authenticity you were seeking, offering a genuine glimpse into daily village life away from tourist performances. We are especially grateful for your praise of guide Xai's excellent English and cooking, as well as Wong's joyful company. We will be sure to pass along your kind words to them. We are also glad to hear that the itinerary modification worked well for you, balancing a substantial forest hike on the first day with easier trails thereafter, and that you slept comfortably. Thank you for choosing The Hiker Laos for this rare and immersive adventure. We hope to welcome you back for another authentic journey in the future. Warm regards, The Hiker Team.
We did the three-day 'Wild Explorer' trek with the legendary Peng as our guide. It was an incredible experience. Peng has considerable knowledge of the jungle, as well as local culture, history, and the economy (especially agriculture). We are a bit familiar with the area and wanted to understand further elements of local life, like food preservation, construction techniques, social and ethnic dynamics, etc. We asked Peng a million questions and he patiently explained everything. We learned a huge amount from him. He also has a sense of humor and we generally enjoyed chatting and hanging out. As widely reported in the reviews, the food was amazing. Ingredients came from the market or were pulled fresh from the jungle. There were several memorable meals but I especially loved Peng's egg and tomato dish, as well as the fresh river crab stuffed with herbs and sticky rice made by our local guide Mr Keo. The 'moderate' rating of the trail was fair. There are some parts that require careful concentration, and a few uphill bouts that will get your heart rate up. But the distance each day isn't too much, so the pace is relaxed and there is plenty of time for breaks. My sense is that the 'Hunter Trail' is probably best suited for regular hikers and people who want more of a physical experience. This is a rugged trek in a remote and wild area in northern Laos, so your expectations should align with this reality. With that said, we felt that The Hiker did everything to ensure a safe, smooth, and unforgettable experience.
Sabaidee, Thank you for your exceptionally detailed and thoughtful review. We are truly honored to read about your profound experience on the 'Wild Explorer' trek with the legendary guide Peng. It is incredibly rewarding to hear that Peng's deep knowledge spanning the jungle, local culture, history, and daily life provided such a rich learning experience for you. His ability to answer a loads of questions with patience and insight is a testament to his skill, and we will be sure to share your high praise with him and Mr. Keo. We are also delighted that the food, from the market fresh ingredients to the memorable river crab dish, was a highlight. Your balanced assessment of the trail's moderate"rating and the distinction between our trek options is immensely helpful for future travelers. We are grateful that you felt the experience was safe, smooth, and unforgettable. Thank you for choosing The Hiker Laos and for sharing this comprehensive account of your journey. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future. Warm regards, The Team at The Hiker Laos
Really great experience trekking through a beautiful national park. Me and the two friends I was with all had a great time despite some bad weather. One of the highlights of the trip for us was the delicious food our guides were able to create from limited ingredients (including some animals and plants we found in the jungle). The three day trip had some challenging hiking and long and slippery treks with few great views and pretty local villages, which is just what we were looking for. Thanks to Noi and Mon, our two guides for making it a great experience
Hello Olly, Thank you so much for sharing your experience from the 3-day challenging trek! We are delighted to hear that you and your friends had a great time, even with the challenging weather, and that the jungle food was a particular highlight. It's wonderful to know that the tough, slippery trails and the authentic village visits provided exactly the kind of adventure you were seeking. We will be sure to pass on your thanks to guides Noi and Mun their skill in creating memorable experiences and delicious meals from the forest is something we're very proud of. I recently did a three-day jungle hike with 2 nights in the forest, mostly in the primary forest. I was accompanied by two very knowledgeable guides. It was exciting to see how they used bamboo and banana leaves for everything. To boil river water, as a plate, cup, etc. Even meat was smoked over fire for 3 hours. The food was always varied and delicious. We stayed the first night in a camp and the second in a tent. According to my app it was a total of about 1700 meters ascent and about 30 km path length. I can only recommend this hike!

Me and my partner did a 3 day trek with The Hiker. Our guides were Pheng and Jaiy who were both lovely and full of information. The hikes were challenging but enjoyable and allowed us to explore the national park and learn about the different tribal villages. The homestays were both comfortable and it was interesting seeing village life. The food was a real highlight - many different Laos dishes that were all delicious and cooked by the guides. Highly recommended!

It was a fun experience to go into the jungle with guide Peng. We got to see very nice views. The walk was sometimes a bit arduous, but rather short. Maybe a little too short for us. The first night in the jungle had little comfort, but we had chosen that and it was a great experience. The guides could also cook very well. Some plants from the jungle can taste. Also the visit to the village was very nice. It's a special experience to experience up close how these people live. With the exception of the evening dance, it also felt like an authentic experience. I would definitely recommend this trip.

During our trip to Laos, we took a 3-day hiking package with The Hiker from Luang Namtha. Our guide, Xay, was immediately expert in the jungle and introduced us to all kinds of plants, edible or medicinal, in this hot and humid forest. Despite the beautiful elevation changes, the views we observed were breathtaking. At lunch and in the evening we ate what Xay prepared. As a former cook, he was able to delight our taste buds with delicious dishes prepared thanks to the harvests made on the way: banana blossoms, shoots and mushrooms from the jungle... beautiful culinary discoveries! Our journey did not stop at food. We also enjoyed some unusual nights. The first; in the middle of the jungle in a makeshift house. We met local pickers who showed us what they were looking for. The second; deep in an ethnic village. The only negative is that this place was a stopover for many trekking agencies. So we ended up with about fifteen tourists. Slight lack of authenticity. Fortunately the people of the village were very welcoming and we had the privilege of being with the chief’s stepson! Also we found a couple of friends there so the evening went very well anyway! In short, a very beautiful experience that we only have once!
Sabaidee, Thank you for this wonderfully detailed and thoughtful review of your 3-day "Wild Explorer" trek. We are so pleased to hear that your journey with Guide Xay was such a memorable and positive experience. We are incredibly proud of our guides, and your words about Xay are fantastic. We will be sure to share your compliments about his expertise in the jungle, his knowledge of plants, and especially his superb cooking skills. It's wonderful to know that the culinary discoveries, made from fresh jungle ingredients, were a highlight of your trip. We are also glad you enjoyed the unique overnight experiences, from the makeshift jungle camp and the encounter with local foragers to the immersive village homestay. We sincerely appreciate your honest feedback regarding the number of tourists at the village. We are constantly working with our local partners to manage visitor flow and promote authentic, respectful tourism, and your comment is valuable for these efforts. We are happy to hear that the welcoming nature of the villagers and your special connection helped create a positive evening despite this. Thank you for choosing The Hiker. It was a pleasure to be a part of your adventure, and we hope to welcome you back one day. Warm regards, The Team at The Hiker.
