We had a wonderful day exploring the beautiful French Riviera on this small-group shore excursion from Villefranche. Alex was our driver for our private tour with 8 family members. He was excellent! He was able to pick us up a little early since we were early at the port. He was extremely knowledgeable and took his time to point out interesting places and things to stop and see. He gave us great recommendations for food and snacks. He kept us on time and comfortable and had a great sense of humor! We were back at the port in plenty of time for our ship. Definitely worth the price for such a limited time in port, we packed it all in.

More than just a resort town, Villefranche-sur-Mer is a living painting—its colors shifting with the sun, its soul steeped in history, charm, and coastal elegance. At the heart of its allure lies the lovely sweeping bay, one of the deepest natural harbors in the Mediterranean, where sapphire waters gently cradle sailboats and luxury yachts alike. The view is timeless: pastel-colored houses cascade down steep hillsides, their shutters faded by the sea breeze and sun, while narrow cobbled streets lead visitors through a village that has somehow escaped the rush of modern life. The Promenade des Marinières lines the water’s edge, inviting long, dreamy strolls with the scent of salt and bougainvillea in the air. Along the shore, Plage des Marinières offers a tranquil beach where locals and travelers alike stretch out beneath striped umbrellas or dip into the crystalline sea. Above the bay, the 16th-century Citadel of Saint-Elme watches protectively over the town, its stone walls whispering stories of ancient battles, pirate raids, and royal visits. Today, it hosts gardens, art exhibitions, and music festivals, blending the past with the present in perfect harmony. Villefranche is also a town of cultural richness—its Chapelle Saint-Pierre, decorated by Jean Cocteau, is a poetic masterpiece that fuses art, faith, and myth. Local markets brim with Provencal flavors, artisanal goods, and the warm laughter of the townspeople. Though it’s often visited by the world’s elite and celebrity travelers, Villefranche-sur-Mer remains deeply human—quiet in its dignity, generous in its beauty. Whether arriving by train from Nice, by yacht from Monaco, or on foot from the surrounding cliffs, one thing is certain: you don’t just visit Villefranche—you fall under its spell.

What a fantastic way to comfortably experience Riviera highlights. Our guide was phenomenal. He had so much in-depth knowledge about each area we visited. It’s hot this time of year so escaping to A/C was heavenly between stops. My favorite places were Antibes and Eze. We were so lucky as it was just 3 of us. Highly recommend!!

As expected there was lots to see, so time was a bit of an issue. Our driver, Valerieu, did take us to a very nice hilltop medieval town of Saint Paul de Vence for lunch, but we did not have any time to both eat and take up his suggestion to visit the cemetery at the south end of the village. Two main criticisms, there was 12 of us in the van, not 8; and our driver did not have a means to use the van's radio speakers to give us information. At a stop I did politely inform him privately that it was difficult for some of us towards the rear of the van to hear him, particularly over the road noise when traveling at speed. He informed me that while some of the company's guides may require such a device, he emphatically stated that his voice was strong enough to reach us. He was incorrect and displayed a rather arrogant attitude. It is primarily for this reason I only rate the tour as a 3

A comprehensive exposure to the French Riviera in about ten hours. Our driver was also the guide with entertaining stories, clear guidance about what to see and time to wander and even shop in each place.
