such a unique snorkeling experience! After changing in a heated van, the staff expertly outfits you with the dry suit, gloves, hood, fins, mask and snorkel you need for the swim. Our guide Anaiza was friendly and fun, and took great photos during the tour. Afterwards, there's hot cocoa and cookies.
I recently did the snorkeling tour at Silfra in Iceland, and it was hands-down one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The water is unbelievably clear (visibility easily 100+ meters), and swimming between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates feels like something out of a fantasy movie. The vibrant blues and greens, the underwater rock formations, and the sheer scale of the fissure left me speechless. What made the trip truly exceptional was our guide, Emma. From the moment we met, she was warm, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. She gave us a thorough briefing on the equipment and safety procedures that put everyone at ease (especially first-timers like me). In the water, Emma was attentive, pointing out interesting geological features and even spotting a few small fish we might have missed. Her calm, encouraging style made the whole group feel safe and excited throughout the tour. The drysuit kept me perfectly warm despite the 2–4°C (35–39°F) water temperature, and the entire experience was extremely well-organized. Everything from the pickup in Reykjavik to the hot chocolate and snacks afterward was top-notch. If you’re even thinking about snorkeling in Iceland, do not hesitate — book the Silfra tour with Emma. This is a bucket-list adventure you’ll remember forever. Thank you, Emma and the whole team, for making it so special! Highly recommend — 5 stars! Would do it again in a heartbeat.
Excellent experience overall. My guide, Emma, was very knowledgeable and helpful in making sure the group knew what to expect and had a great time. Highly recommend!
This is a very unique experience and something that we absolutely loved. We had six people in our group and had an excellent time.
While it's a bit of time preparing for the snorkeling, it's definitely worth it! Water so clear you can see the bottom of the river/lake, and so beautiful!
Fun and unique experience on our first full day in Iceland. Very different than all the tropical snorkeling we’ve done. Water was so clear and blue and you can drink it! Our guide, Emile, was great!
Unreal experience, our tour guide Elsa was great!
Wear a light base layer. Expect to get a little wet on your shirt sleeves and maybe collar. Don’t wear a hoodie!
A truly unique experience. Our guides were supportive and encouraging throughout. Some info/thoughts which might help others: The only parts of me which got wet were my hands (and slightly up my arms) and my lips. Anything you’re wearing under your suit will stay dry and be fine. I wore leggings and a thermal top. You get a dry suit and another warm suit to put on (under the dry suit). I really feel the cold but it was fine. The suit feels tight especially around the head and neck when you first wear it but that’s soon forgotten when you’re in the water. The guides help you put the suit and equipment on so please don’t worry if you’ve never used it before. The guides communicate really well once you’re in the water so will keep you on track. All in all - a really unique experience.
The photo of the snorkeler touching two plates that is on every ad is false. You will wear a dry suit that prevents you from submerging. Instead, you will spend 1.5 hours getting gear on and off, standing in a long line while very hot and uncomfortable for a 25 minute snorkel. (If you have done a cenote dive, it is the same experience without the hassle.)
Hello Jolene, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. The photo you are referring to is of a diver. There are no photos online of a snorkeler touching the two plates because that is only possible while scuba diving. The dry suit is filled with air so, naturally, it is positively buoyant. Our guides are highly trained professionals who must respect all the safety regulations that are in place for our tours. All the requirements, as well as our cancellation policy, are clearly stated on every webpage where our tours are advertised or sold. Our guides take care of all of our guests in the same way. Nobody is left behind and everyone goes through the same equipment set up and briefing. The medical risks are very clearly explained in the mandatory medical questionnaire that every guest must fill out and sign. The fact that someone turned 60 just a few days before the tour is not grounds for an exception. Despite your husband not being able to join due to not reading the requirements, we still issued a full refund for his ticket, as a gesture of goodwill and against our cancellation policy. We did not issue a refund for your ticket, nor for your son's, as that would mean operating the tour at a loss. We strive every day to ensure all of our guests have all the necessary information, even before they place their booking. Being called ageist and other derogatory terms (in private) is truly disappointing if not defamatory, as the safety of our guests is our top priority at all times. We hope you enjoyed your trip to Iceland despite this disappointing experience.
