Joao was a fabulous tour guide. First hand knowledge of Rocinha, having grown up there, and fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish. He took time to explain everything and answer all questions, ensuring we were safe and having fun too. Great rooftop views, bars, entertainment but wear good shoes as some bits are tricky and be prepared for the pillion ride on the Moto taxi. It isn't for the faint-hearted but the guys are geniuses. Joao even helped me negotiate the Metro to Copacabana. A lovely young man wo, I hope, fulfills his further study and global travel goals. Highly recommended.
Lora led us to an incredible experience in the Rocinha favela. Her explanations and knowledge were exceptional and we learned a lot and experienced a lot in this tour. We strongly recommend Lora as a guide to anyone that wants to understand the life and culture in the favela.
You should come with absolute confidence. The place is safe for tourists. The guide Juan did an incredible job.
an interesting walk through the Favela. With some interesting stops on the way- a cabuela school, a bar, a footbal field, an artist studio. A lot of tours, and we were in off season, gave a lot of waiting around. Tour was to take 3 hours, it took 4, due to waiting around. Our group was 8 people, in high season the groups are 40-50, I dont want to imagine the waits and bottlenecks that will create

I booked an English tour. We were in a group of 9 people and Daniel, our guide took the time to teach us little known facts of the Favela. A very enlightening tour, highly recommended. The motorbike ride up the peak was really exciting.

It was amazing experience. We were able to learn so much about the culture and took amazing pictures. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had great laughs and memories to take with us. We recommend it 100%.
Daniel our tour guide was great. Very patient, very helpful and seemed to truly enjoy his job. Great English so he definitely made the tour feel a lot safer.
I took this tour with the guide Juan, who is very knowledgeable about the favela as he was raised there. I loved everything he taught me, much more than what one could find online, making the experience absolutely unique, provoking a huge reflection on what it is like to live in such places. It was very, very interesting; I recommend it 1000%. That said, for anyone reading this, remember to buy something or donate in the favela, as the social projects they undertake to move forward are not funded by the government, and it is the only way they have to educate themselves to prevent the growth of criminal groups.
