As a travel planner, I recommended my clients to go through Ben on their Dar Es Salaam city tour, which they did. The afternoon went very well for them, from the ferry, where Ben picked them up, to the end of the visit to Slipway, where they had booked for dinner. Ben is very helpful and knows his subject very well. He really wants to make visitors have a great time and he does everything to make people feel good. As my clients were Francophone, I asked Ben if it was possible to have a visit in French and he was able to mobilise a translator, who was just as friendly. Ben was also very helpful regarding a taxi problem. In short, I recommend without hesitation!! (And let me make it clear that I do not receive a commission.)
I had pleasure of being guided by Ben..it was an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend Ben to anyone looking for a comprehensive and enjoyable tour experience.
Our trip wasn’t nearly as good as the reviews I saw. To start with, the air conditioning in the vehicle was broken so sitting waiting for traffic to move was really hot and tiring. The National Museum was very interesting, with artifacts from the Olduvai Gorge, and so was the drive through the University. We stopped at a place with stalls selling the usual carvings, wood and fabrics but weren’t told where to see someone carving wood till we got back in the car. Lunch was a choice of local food. It was served in trays for guests to choose from but was lukewarm. We didn’t get sick so that was OK. Next we thought we were going to the Village Museum but it turned out to be another group of stalls selling the same things so we didn’t leave the car though our guide tried to persuade us to buy a painting. This trip was just OK, and not worth the money. I wonder if this review will be posted?
I think some clients love ruining other people’s businesses. I spent so much money and time to get permission to come pick you up inside the port. On the day of the tour we had agreed to meet at 9:00am! Were you there on time? I waited over an hour I even had to let my driver leave because you were no where to be seen. When you showed up almost two hours later what should I have done? Just find available car and driver. About the food it’s the same we offer to everyone if you want fancy restaurant then you just cover that on your own and don’t expect fancy restaurants with this amount that you pay. The tour is 8 hours, you came late and you also wanted to be back at the port at 4pm how do you expect to finish all the places listed? I asked you if you wanted to visit the remaining places and you said no. Should I have forced you? About painting, I just explained the painting style and never ever in my career persuaded anyone to buy painting. I regret hosting you, If I knew before I would have cancelled!
Loved my time in Dar es Salaam, this tour is perfect for the history and architecture junkies. The itinerary is seamless - Ben is knowledgeable, kind and a wonderful story teller. Would highly recommend.
