ジャヤ スリ マハ菩提樹は、スリランカのアヌラーダプラにあるマハメウナ庭園に立つ神聖なイチジクの木、またはフィカス レリジオサです。それはゴータマ・ブッダに最も近い本物の生きたつながりであるだけでなく、植えられた日付と記録された歴史が知られている世界最古の人間が植えた木でもあります。
Brazen Palace (Lowamahapaya) 紀元前 2 世紀にドゥトゥグムヌ王によって建てられた 9 階建ての修道院の跡です。この建造物には、食堂、集会場、支部会館があり、屋根は青銅の瓦で覆われていたと言われています (そのため、「青銅の宮殿」という名前が付けられました)。
ルワンウェリセヤは、スリランカ北中部州の古代シンハラの首都アヌラーダプラにあります。ドゥトゥガムヌ王 (紀元前 137 年 – 紀元前 119 年) によって建設され、彼の死後、弟のサダティッサ王によって完成されました。ルワンウェリセヤは、世界で最も高い古代遺跡の一つにランクされています。
高さ 122 メートル (400 フィート) のこの仏塔は世界で最も高い仏塔であり、アヌラーダプラのマハセナ王 (在位 273 ～ 301 年) によって建設された当時は世界で 3 番目に高い建造物でした。
クッタム ポクナ (双子の池またはプール) は、スリランカにある保存状態の良い古い沐浴タンクまたは池です。この一対の池は、古代アヌラーダプラ王国のシンハラ人によって建設されました。これらはアバヤギリ ヴィハーラ複合施設の一部を形成しており、古代シンハラ人の水文学工学、建築、芸術の分野における作品の一例です。
サマーディ仏陀は、スリランカのアヌラーダプラにあるマハメヴナワ公園にある有名な仏像です。仏陀は、最初の悟りに関連した瞑想の姿勢であるディアナ ムードラの姿勢で描かれています。この像は高さ 7 フィート 3 インチで、ドロマイト大理石から彫られています。
ジェタワナーラーマーヤ・ストゥーパは、スリランカのアヌラーダプラ州で最も象徴的で神聖な仏教記念建造物の1つで、マハーセーナ王の時代に建てられました。 かつては120メートルを超えてそびえ立ち、古代世界で最も高いレンガ造りの建造物の一つであり、上座部や大乗仏教の学問の主要な中心地であった。 今日でもジェタワナラーマヤは重要な巡礼地であり続け、その莫大な規模と歴史的意義、そして時代を超えた建築美で称賛されている。
ムーンストーンとしても知られるサンダカダ パハナは、古代スリランカの建築のユニークな特徴です。これは精巧な彫刻が施された半円形の石板で、通常は階段や入り口の底に置かれます。
時間が経つにつれ、石のほうが耐久性のある素材だったため、アヌラーダプラ王国の建築家たちは、ガードストーン、ムーンストーン、欄干の建設に木の代わりに石を使用するようになりました。ガードストーンの進化の次の段階は、彫刻の導入でした。
アヌラーダプラの象の池 (Eth Pokuna) は、スリランカの歴史的なアヌラーダプラ王国の王の統治時代に建てられた巨大な古代の貯水池です。長さ約 159 メートル、幅 52 メートル、深さ 9.5 メートルのこの池は、近くの修道院に水を供給するために使用されました。この池の名前は、象も収容できるほどの巨大な大きさに由来していると思われます。古代スリランカの工学技術の証であるこの池は、当時の水力システムの創意工夫と機知に富んだ技術を際立たせています。
聖地アヌラーダプラにあるトゥパラマヤ仏塔は、紀元前 3 世紀に遡るスリランカ最古の仏塔とされています。デーヴァナンピヤ ティッサ王によって建てられたこの仏塔には、仏陀の鎖骨の聖遺物が安置されており、仏教徒の崇拝の地となっています。仏塔の鐘形のデザインと周囲の石柱は、古代スリランカ建築の優雅さを反映しています。仏塔は、島に仏教が伝来した後に建てられた最初の仏塔であり、歴史的にも宗教的にも非常に重要な意味を持っています。
アヌラーダプラにあるイスルムニヤ寺院は、精巧な石の彫刻で知られる、美しく歴史的に重要な岩窟寺院です。紀元前 3 世紀に建てられ、もともとは仏教僧の聖域でした。この寺院は、古代スリランカの卓越した芸術性を示す見事なイスルムニヤの恋人の彫刻で有名です。静かな蓮の池と彫刻された岩層に囲まれたこの寺院は、穏やかな雰囲気を醸し出しており、歴史愛好家とスピリチュアルな探求者の両方にとって必見の場所です。

We had the best experience with Navin! If you are in Anuradhapura, definitely book this tour (or one of his other tours). Navin picked us up and dropped us off with his tuktuk, was extremely kind and interesting, and could tell us everything about the many places we visited. He loves his work and that truly shows, he shares his culture and is eager to learn yours.

We had such a great time with Navin. He is very friendly, easy to talk to and knows a lot about Anuradhapura, its history and Buddhism. He explains everything in a relaxed and interesting way and really takes the time to answer your questions. What made the tour even better was his sense of humor. He knew quite a few Dutch words, sayings and jokes, which made us laugh a lot throughout the day. Communication through WhatsApp was also very easy and clear. Besides the tour, he gave us some great tips for local restaurants and other activities in the area. We learned a lot, laughed a lot and had a really fun and interesting tour. Definitely recommend Navin if you are visiting Anuradhapura!

This afternoon we made a very nice and enjoyable tour through Anuradhapura accompanied by Navin. With two tuktuks we were driven around and at the main spots Navin told us. He has explained to us things about Buddhism, about the temples, the stupas and the archaeological remains of the old city. Navin is a very enthusiastic and funny guide, who senses his company well.

We will probably never forget this experience. The tour itself was already brilliant. After a brief introduction, we got into deep talks with Navin very quickly and were able to/allowed to ask him really anything. We were able to talk about poverty, dating, inflation, crises in Sri Lanka, and much more. Navin was very honest about it and didn't sugarcoat anything. For us, that was perfect because we wanted to get a deeper impression of people's lives, and we did. Besides our "off-topic" conversations, the tour was, as already mentioned, brilliant. Professionally and linguistically, Navin is completely convincing. What we also particularly liked is that we knew at all times what was happening next, how far the next restroom was, when we needed something to drink/eat, etc. Navin had everything 100% under control and we were able to sit back and let ourselves be guided through this tour (and enjoy it).

At the suggestion of Navim we did the afternoon tour instead of the morning. First we were a bit surprised by this but it was really a good idea. It allowed to escape most of the heat and the atmosphere around the Stupas was really great at sunset. Overall a very good experience. Also our teenage daughters were captivated by Navim's enthousiasm and really enjoyed the tour.

We had such a great time exploring Anuradhapura with our guide! He picked us up in his tuk-tuk and showed us around both the Old Town and New Town. We learned A LOT about the history (and somehow remembered at least some of it 😄), but there was also plenty of laughing, joking and chatting along the way. He was super friendly, funny and easy to talk to. It honestly felt more like hanging out with a local friend than being on a tour. Definitely recommend him if you want to discover Anuradhapura in a fun and relaxed way! 😊

We had contact beforehand via Viator and later via WhatsApp. He picked us up in 2 tuktuks. Navin knows a lot about all the places we visited, made jokes, is very enthusiastic about the city and his country. He had answers to the questions if we wanted to know more. He's fun with kids. Our boys of 11 and 9 were in the tuktuk with him. Our tour ran an hour late but he didn't bother with that. The boys also thought it was a super interesting afternoon and were not bored for a second.
