Fabulous day. Not to be missed

Gillian (guide) and Sandra (driver) made a good team. Gillian was very knowledgable and passionate about all things Bronte and Sandra expertly navigated the twists and turns of the narrow lanes. The tour was well structured, hitting the key sites and buildings that inspired the Brontes' stories and affected their lives. Gillian helped to transport us back into the 1840's with the Bronte family, though sometimes insisting on deferring our questions to later in the tour. Be advised that there is a lot of driving to and from the sites and a fair amount of standing during the narratives. Also, perhaps it would have been better to let us find our own lunch and explore in Howarth instead of specifying the lunch restaurant where all six of us were seated together and rigidly structuring our time there. As welcome and informative as Gillian's narrative was, much was redundant with the tour materials and what was presented and readily available at the various locations. This limited our free time to enjoy a very interesting Howarth. Overall we do recommend this tour.
Really glad Gillian and Sandra made such a good team and that the sites and stories brought the 1840s to life so vividly. Thank you also for the detailed feedback — particularly around the time in Haworth and the lunch arrangements. We want guests to have proper space to explore the village independently, and your comments are a valuable prompt to look again at how we structure that part of the day. Haworth is a very busy village and we know that you would have preferred to bring your own packed lunch, but years of experience have tought us that reserving tables for lunch is the best, stress-free option to make the most of the time that we have available. There is nowhere really to sit to eat a packed lunch which would guarantee that you would be dry should it have rained (it does rain a lot I'm afraid!). We always give our guests time to explore the village independently after all of the important Brontë locations there have been covered and, on this particular tour everyone was back at the bus just before the specified time so we assume that the timings were good for the rest of the group. Travelling from Windermere or Oxenholme in the Lake District is about the same length of time as it would be from York. However, departing from the Lake District has the advantage of enabling us to keep all of our stops completely relevant to the Brontë theme of the tour, from York, this does not happen. The journey out there, as you found, is about an hour and thirty minutes with three substantial stops out and one stop during the return. Given that we pass through three counties, Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire, that is not too bad we hope, especially as the scenery throughout is stunning. Yes, there are occasions of very short walks and standing during the tour but this is usually no more than twenty or thirty minutes at a time with stops and opportunities to sit down along the way. We apologise if you found this too much for you. We are grateful you took the time to share this, and we hope a future visit gives you more room to enjoy Haworth at your own pace.
Our Bronte sister tour from Windermere was exceptional. Our guide and driver had an abundance of knowledge and stories about the Brontes that gave an immersion into their lives and the time in history in which they lived and how it influenced their writing. Even if you are not a Bronte fan, the history of the area and the circumstances of their lives was insightful, educational and brought to life by our tour guides. I especially enjoyed seeing the surrounding landscape and the moors.

The circumstances of their lives, the landscape that shaped them, the moors above Haworth — it is all genuinely extraordinary on its own terms. We are so glad it came alive for you. I loved this trip to the home of The Brontes in Haworth. Gillian our guide, provided a rich and engaging narrative that brought the Bronte's individual characters to life. I got to know the world they inhabited and it gave me a greater understanding of them and their lives and achievements. Such an amazing day! I had been hoping to make the journey to the Bronte Parsonage, and when I saw this option, I was excited. It was a whole day of beautiful views, lovely history and great conversation. Gillian and Tim were fantastic guides, knowledgeable and flexible. They answered questions - about the Brontes and every other random things we asked - and made the experience perfect.

We planed our trip from Alaska around this tour!!! It was totally worth it! Our tour guides (Gillian & Sandra) were historians with very knowledgable, detailed, and engaging commentary on the life and works of the Brontë family. I had been fascinated by the lives and deaths of this family and the tour brought it to life! Seeing the landscapes where they lived and walked was the best way to really get a feel for their reality and inspiration for their literary works. It was incredible to tour the parsonage where they lived and also died. The clock in their home which they heard when they were alive, is still ticking today. Sandra navigated the roads expertly! Loved the narrow backroads! Gillian told great stories of the Brontë sisters and painted a vivid picture for us. Both guides were a pleasure to spend the day with! Highly recommend this tour!

More than just knowledgeable they were experts, academic level insights into the Lake District and the Brontë family, but never stuffy or boring. Can’t recommend highly enough.
