What an interesting info session about the process of growing/cultivating oysters ! It was extremely informative, educational and fun - a very good show and tell with lots of examples to touch, feel and see. Pia was wonderful - so pleasant and very knowledgeable! The farm is very rustic and authentic - not commercial at all which added to the experience ! Highly recommend this !!
we are so glad you enjoyed our farm tour, we appreciate your visit and feedback.
Really great. Detailed and very informative explanations about this activity. It’s all the more interesting because they practice different techniques and are innovative. We walked to the farm located behind the sheds, accompanied by Molly, the Labrador who owns the place! 😉 Even the landscape is beautiful. The tasting concluded our visit and the oysters are delicious! (A little taste of cucumber!!!). Well done and thank you!!!
thanks for joining us glad you enjoyed our oysters. We love to hear your feedback and Molly once again steals the limelight!
This was an amazing experience! Highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning about the industry. Educational, fun, engaging and very well organized. The hands on portion was so fun. The owners take great pride in sustaining their craft, learned a great deal and had a blast!! Book this experience you will love it!
Delighted you enjoyed your time at the farm!
This was a great experience and very informative. The oysters were delicious and the Labrador welcome was a great start. 😊
Glad you enjoyed the exxperience
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and tasting, learnt so much. A must do experience and the oysters were delicious!!
Hi Christine, delighted you enjoyed your tour, it was our pleasure to host you.
It was an honest guide through the tough reality of oyster farming. Very instructive; one could easily start doing it oneself now... The tasting was almost filling... "Only" 4 stars, due to local conditions, whose improvement is obviously delayed by bureaucratic hurdles. Nevertheless, a warmer place would be desirable for the tasting (certainly no problem in sunny weather). Furthermore, while pure oysters are authentic, a tasting: pure, with lemon, onions, or for that matter Tabasco, would significantly enhance the experience. If only bureaucracy wouldn't have something against it again.
We are glad you visited the farm to understand how we produce our wonderful oysters. We believe the unique tase or Merroir of our oysters is best experienced 'au natural', however we fully understand that this is not your preference.
Fascinating to hear history and current day science of oyster farming. David was a wonderful guide and welcomed us all to this mixture of technology and oyster farming all in one place. Highly recommended, might go again on this visit to Connemara.
Delighted to hear you enjoyed the tour, thanks for taking the time to share with us.
Had a great private tour with Paul who formerly worked the place in a variety of positions. Beautiful scenery and the world’s best oysters (and we come from Northern California).
Spent the morning out on the wild coast of Connemara with DK Connemara Oysters and honestly, it was something else. Christina was exceptional. Sharp, charismatic, and deeply knowledgeable the kind of person who doesn’t just explain the process, but makes you feel the history behind it. You can tell this isn’t just a business, it’s a legacy. The oysters? Outstanding. Clean, mineral, intensely fresh exactly what you’d expect from Grade A waters, but still somehow better when you’re standing right there where they’re grown. What really hits you is the continuity. Oysters have been found on that exact stretch of coastline since the Bronze Age. Farming has been happening there since 1809. Same waters, same land, generations of work that’s not marketing, that’s heritage. And you taste it. Add to that the scenery raw Atlantic, shifting light, that rugged Connemara beauty and you realise this is far more than a tasting. It’s an education packed into a single morning. Quick reality check: if you care about food, you should care about where it comes from. Support family businesses. Support local farmers. Do the farm tours. They’re not just “nice experiences” they directly help sustain these operations, and you walk away knowing far more than you did going in. I fully back this experience and would recommend it without hesitation to anyone coming to Ireland who has even a passing interest in oysters. This is how you connect product, place, and people properly.
HI Felipe, delighted you had such an enjoyable tour and thanks for the review, it is appreciated. Christina
Fantastic working oyster farm tour where i realised I knew absolutely nothing about oysters and the amount of work it takes to get them onto your plat. Our host was awesome, knowledgeable and fun and the tasting of the delicious oysters afterwards topped off a great morning. Recommend wrapping up well as you are exposed to the elements a lot of the time. Beautiful part of the country too.
