We had Roberto as our driver. But the main thing to understand is that Roberto was much much more than a driver. He is very proud of his country, and delightfully offered information throughout our drive including stopping in Chinchero at a local Alpaca shop. It was a great day because Roberto was at the Cusco airport waiting for us after we had traveled a very long way and long time, and was so helpful and delightful the entire time. In fact, we rehired him to bring us from Ollantaytambo to Cusco 5 days later.
The entire experience was stemless. Our driver was early, and the drive was remarkably comfortable. He pointed out all of the towns, lakes, and mountains on the way to the resort. He asked if we wanted to stop at a look out point and took our picture there. Couldn’t be happier with the whole experience.
This is a mixed review. I arranged a ride for my family and I the night before we were to head to Urubamba. The ride was confirmed for 11am the next morning. At 11:30, no vehicle was in sight. I text the number provided and who ever I contacted had no information about the pick up time or location. And remember, both were *confirmed* the night before. Then I was told our new pick up time was 12 but our driver did not arrive until 12:20. 80 full minutes after our arranged pick up time. Our driver was courteous enough, though. He pointed out landmarks and tried teaching us some Quechua. A 90 minute drive ended up being over 3 hours which included quite a few stops along the way. Some were interesting and we did stop for photo opportunities but eventually it just dragged on. He brought us to a bar, without us asking, and sat us down for a refreshing beverage with no discussion before hand. Was it part of a tour? I have no idea. But as we were leaving he asked us to leave a tip. I found it a bit odd that it was not prearranged and he was asking us to pay for something he impulsively did. The drive was beautiful and we did have a good driver but I will not be booking with Jarita Tours again.
