Instructive, entertaining, mistical
Can't say enough good things about Veni, our Greek/German/Scottish tour guide. We had a 13yr old and 11yr old with us who were sufficiently frigthened and entertained at the same time. She made them incredily curious! I can't tell you how many questions they peppered her with at the end and she took them all in stride! We would book this tour again! Thank you Veni!
Had a brilliant time. Our tour guide Ash was excellent. Vaults very atmospheric. Would have liked to spend more time down there. Highly recommend.
JUST ABSOLUTELY AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! Spooky ghost stories underground actually makes you feel scared. Kirsty has been an amazing guide. A must do if you really want to know the history of Edinburgh.
Marina was an exceptional tour guide. Very knowledgeable and confident in her history. Amazing storyteller with a passion for what she does. If you’re looking for a vault tour that provides history as well as exceptional story, telling . Mercat tours with Marina is the one want. Highly recommend.

Our Haunted Underground Vault Tour with Mercat was amazing! Lena and Kirsty (our guide) were absolutely wonderful - the immersive and informative experience was truly a joy to be a part of! You can absolutely tell when someone loves what they do, especially when it’s to scare the pants off of you and have you duck for cover over a citizen yelling Gardyloo! The creepy storytelling aspect of this experience melded with interesting historical information made it all feel grounded and real. Edinburgh is a romantically beautiful city but the dark secrets from its past emerge slowly as you begin to unravel how things went wrong in the underground. No spoilers, but watch your back!
The tour was incredibly enjoyable from start to finish. Ash was a phenomenal tour guide. She was very knowledgable, and she should be on broadway the way she acted out the stories!! She made everyone feel like they were part of the experience, and we would 100% recommend the tour. The vaults were an amazing experience too, and it’s great to learn about Edinburgh’s history in such an immersive way. Thanks Ash!
Was booked on this tour by our travel agent. Tour was not suitable for 8 year old, far too scary. We had to leave the tour directly after the descend into the vaults. On the other hand, the guide was a really good storyteller, we learned a lot of new things and we adults enjoyed ourselves. So for older children and adults this can certainly be recommended.
It was a fun tour. Half an hour of interesting facts about the alleys on the Mile and medieval life. Then into the underground. Each space a new story about the possible ghosts still hanging around there and also historical facts. Ash was our guide and she did a very nice job. The guides are dressed up and Ash could tell the stories in an enthusiastic and compelling way, very nice! I thought it was a bit pricey, 30 quid pp, but yes, everything is quite pricey there. It's worth it.
