This “hop on, hop off” bus tour was great! It was the perfect way to experience Montreal with no hassle. I would definitely recommend it. Shout out to tour guide Julien - super energetic and full of information!
Starting point pickup was a bit confusing and had to call the office to clarify but ultimately a great way to see a new city.
The credit card machine does not work. We had to leave all our cash. $180 for 4 people. We asked for the flyer to get the map and the schedule. We were told that it was not necessary. So we did not get it. We wanted to stop at the lookout: the stop was unavailable. We have done many other sightseeing tours and each time before the next stop it is specified what can be visited. None of that here. The guide, a sort of Trump, speaks essentially English and very very little French: about one sentence out of 10. When we pointed this out to him at the end of the tour, he laughed and wished us a good end to our day. The circuit itself seemed uninteresting to me. To finish, and when we got off the bus, the center door was closed on purpose "for our safety". We all had to exit through the front door of the bus where the guide was waiting for us, who had warned us that a tip was appropriate.
“Our company is so large that a poor review does not matter.” “You must email your concerns and wait for a response.” “There is no way to refund your money.” These are direct quotes from the customer service rep.
Read the paper map well ASAP to understand where and it goes. It would be great to have that info who you book the tour. Tour guides gave lots of information and were helpful.
The kind of experience you have really depends on the tour guide you get. I had 4 during the course of the hop on hop off experience and I just have to give a special shout out to Julie who was fabulous. I learned so much and their enthusiasm for the city was infectious. If you hop on a bus with them MC-ing DO NOT GET OFF!
Francois the tour guide made our tour entertaining as well as educational. There was a complete blockage of Old Montreal for an ‘officer down’ funeral on our first day, but Frank our driver expertly navigated us throughout all the road closures. The company extended everyone’s ticket by a day and by the time we’d explored Mont Royal everything was back to normal and we were able to enjoy the whole tour. The stops were perfect for seeing all the best of the city.
The information was interesting and covered interesting places in Montreal. However, 2 of the buses we were on did not have any air conditioning on the enclosed portion of the bus. It was a very hot day, and since you are not able to open any windows, it made it very uncomfortable. We got off at the nearest stop just to see if we could catch a bus with air conditioning on the route. Since we had elderly in our group, the sun was too intense for them to go up to the top in addition to the stairs to climb to go up. So the air conditioning was extremely important on such a hot day.
The ride was informative (live guide was nice) and the buses were timely. The Gray Line does not have maps with timetables available until after you board, which resulted in us arriving 15-20 minutes early to our first stop. Also, there are no signs at the stops indicating this is where to meet the bus.
Stops are hard to find as they are not marked on the street. After calling and messaging I was sent this, which I’m not sure why they don’t have posted on their website!
