この場所の元の構造は、ケープタウンのオランダ人によって、エスピリト サント川の河口から約 400 m の場所に建設された要塞化された交易所でした。遠征隊は、クラース・ニューホフの指揮の下、2隻の船、ゴーダとカープに乗った113人の男性で構成されていました。 1721 年 2 月 19 日にケープを離れ、4 月初旬にマプト湾に到着しました。地元の酋長の許可を得た後、彼らは五角形の木造の砦、リザームヘイド砦を建設しました。さまざまな困難に見舞われた結果、約半年でヨーロッパ人の約半数が死亡し、主にマラリアの犠牲者となりました。ゼーランディア号とウノ号によってケープから援軍が到着し、さらに 72 人の兵士と物資がもたらされましたが、シナリオは変わりませんでした。

3.5 km walk through the city, to the historic buildings and squares of the city. Romeo was an entertaining guide with wit and humor who, in addition to facts, also knew how to report details of people's everyday lives vividly and with a wink. Highly recommended.

Confirmation of reservation was amazingly quick- I received a WhatsApp message from tour guide Aylton within minutes. My booking was last minute so I really appreciated his availability and quick response. The tour itself was great. Definitely worth it to see the historic sites of the city and learn about Mozambican history and culture from a local. We went to some places I never could have seen or enjoyed on my own. Some nice surprises along the way, including sampling fruit I never saw before in my life (and I’ve traveled extensively). Aylton’s English language was very good and I highly recommend booking a tour with him.

Aylton is a good guide, Bring your walking shoes as were walking for 3 hours :-). What an interesting city. Thanks to Aylton even more interesting. He has lots of interesting information about mozambique past and present too.
