Our group of six family and friends booked a private tour of Gdansk with Walkative, and we were fortunate to have Filip as our guide. The city was very crowded with many large tours, and we were very happy to have Filip, who was wonderfully talkative and always easy to understand. He seemed to know everything about the city and Poland in general, and provided many insights into the history and culture. I was especially moved by his dramatic telling of the siege of the Post Office in September 1939. The tour was not expensive, so if you are in Gdansk on a cruise as we were, I highly recommend Walkative.
Great experience of visiting Gdansk with Izabela, who explained very clearly history of the town! We really appreciated the visit and can only recommend her:)!
"Marcin Okunie" I read on the ID card hanging around our city guide's neck. Marcin Okunie is dressed athletically – like a triathlete, my wife says –, tanned, and qualified for his task in many respects. For one thing, he possesses the endurance in both speaking and walking that allows him to conduct several city tours a day. For another, he can conquer his hunger, so that he seems to get by on every tour with a banana and a drink from his casually unzipped side pocket – but this is only mentioned as a side note and with a view to the always hungry tourists. Of greater importance, however, is his stupendous education, not only in questions regarding the fate of Danzig in particular, but also regarding Polish history in general, which forms the basis for his knowledgeable lectures. Marcin Okunie apparently has a strong bond with the city through his grandfather—I suspect this due to his frequent mention during the lecture—which, as some say, bore the name Gyddanyzc in times immemorial, before Christian missionaries like Adalbert of Prague came to the settlement inhabited by Kashubians and Prussians. From Gydannyzc they made Danczik, from Danczik Dantzig, which was later spelled Danzig, and today is called Danzig, our city guide announces with agile hands and surprisingly long fingers, and finally Gdańsk. Marcin Okunie's fascinating and humorous city tour is perhaps owed to this grandfather and his instinct to stay alive and to live, specifically in Danzig, his hometown, as one of the few survivors after so many thousands had perished following war, murder, flight, and pillaging.
The tour of Gdansk main town is very interesting and Marcin is a great guide. He told us a lot of curiosities about the city
Marcin, our tour guide, brought the history of his city, Gdansk, to life for us with a lot of verve, knowledge, and humor. In the two and a half hours that he guided us through the crowded city center with sleepwalking certainty, I learned a lot of new and interesting things and got suggestions for further exploration of the city. Absolute recommendation!!!
On our recent trips, my wife and I started going on walking tours: Oslo, Manchester, London and now Gdańsk. The Gdańsk tour with Tufi was hands down the best experience we’ve had exploring any of these cities. Tufi was incredible throughout the whole tour, sharing so much interesting information, having great conversations with us between the stops, and giving us genuinely helpful insight into the city. It was educational, entertaining, and incredibly engaging. But the thing that made this tour (and Tufi) stand out above all the others was the last stop: THE Post Office. You could feel every word he was saying. His story was filled with emotion, and everyone could see how deeply that whole period and its history had affected him and his life. In every story, every sentence, and every word, you could feel how much love Tufi has for his city. An incredible experience, and we will definitely be back to Gdańsk. Lots of love from Serbia, Aleksandar and Tamara
Had a great walking tour around the Gdańsk, led by Paweł (also known as PK). He was extremely knowledgeable and funny. We learnt a lot about the history of Gdańsk dating back as far as the 10th century. We walked around the main town, along the river and part of the old town. PK was happy to answer any and all questions and was respectful of the group's varied nationalities. I would highly recommend this tour and company, and especially our guide PK. Happy Birthday Paweł!
Gdansk (in four days] is well worth a visit, in our case we did not prebook any trips as we wanted to explore the old town and the seasonal festival markets. We flew from l a very busy Leeds airport [2 hours] and arrived at a modern spacious Lech Walesa airport which has excellent transport links to the surrounding areas. We were happy to self explore the old town at a leisurely pace with frequent food and drink stops, but we saw many guided tours and trips for the more organised. We found the people friendly and the town is vibrant and safe and you should find something to suit your tastes and budget. Like the UK Poland has its own currency but everywhere accepts cards and we used currency mainly in the markets, and for tips. Gdansk has a train station in the town centre and taxi's are affordable if venturing further, but we found plenty to do in our 4 day visit in and around the old town. So my verdict is Gdansk is well worth a visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Tufi, was excellent. He was able to present a lot of information in an engaging and interesting way. Really opened our eyes to the importance of Gdansk and its place in history. Highly recommend this tour.
Intresting tour with Tufi Cheerful, easy going and can a lit
