The visit to the castle was probably more a 4 or 5 but I reduced the rating because of the way in which the tickets were delivered to us. What I thought were actually tickets was just a receipt which doesn’t get you into the castle. The link was clearly marked and it prompted me to add it to my iPhone wallet. I’m pretty sure the guards at the entrance gate have experienced this in the past but didn’t seem at all interested in helping us figure out what to do. The link to the actual tickets was so small (it just had my name followed by PDF) that three of us read and reread the email until someone spotted it. All they need to do is make that link plainly visible in larger font and this rating would have been better.
Excellent experience. It was so essay to purchase the tickets and a smooth entrance into the castle without any line up or waiting. Natalia was great at communicating from start to finish to ensure our experienced went smoothly. The audio was excellent- detailed and informative. I highly recommend this self guided tour with audio!

Got to the gate and they said they were closing despite our time slot on TripAdvisor not even occurring yet. We didn't manage to get in. We were also told that this was much more expensive than if we had just bought our tickets at the door

We had a bad experience. There did not meet guides up. We couldn't call anyone up. The tickets we had received did not work in Borgens ticket system. We feel badly treated. We had to buy new tickets directly at the entrance. We are also not satisfied with the handling of our complaint. At the entrance the guards told me that they were experiencing this every day....

I received the tickets electronically, but the file never opened, so I ended up buying other tickets. I contacted the provider of the tickets, but no help at all.

The tour guide speak perfect English. He is really knowledgeable about Portugal history. He told us a lot of stories about this country. Enjoy the tour with him.

Skip the line was very handy since there was a long ticket line when we arrived. We just showed our tickets and went right in. The guide worked well and gave good info. Highly recommend!

The self guided tour was informative , but we stopped listening and ended up exploring on our own. Fascinating experience for this first time traveler to any castle. A lot of stairs and steps. Not for the out of shape.

If you visit the castle first thing in the morning on a weekday, don’t bother with this. There were only a few other visitors at the 9am opening. Also, the confirmation email said I needed to be 15 minutes early for a security check… nope. No such check, and the gates don’t open before 9. The audio guide “included” is just the normal, free audio tour available to all entry levels. Just buy the regular entry ticket through the Castle and don’t bother with this unless you plan a weekend or afternoon visit. I could have saved at least 10 euros.

Go early, got there at 9.00am no queue! And had the place all to myself. Surreal feeling. The free roaming peacock make it even wilder! Worth the climb up for sure. Make sure to download the tickets via email before you go.
