Though we didn’t get to see bears this trip, it wasn’t because our guide didn’t try Al returned 3 times to the primary location where tourists see the bears and once we just missed them. Al was very knowledgeable, the van was very clean and comfortable and we did get to see eagles, sea lions, totems, a waterfall and lots of salmon
Not seeing bears is such a bummer, but the other stuff you mentioned sounds great! We're glad you got to see so much of the Alaskan ecosystem!
The tour does not only contain bear experience but also excitement and full of facts! It is one of a kind experience.
The bears are awesome, but my favorite is the plant life here in Southeast Alaska. We're glad your party enjoyed the tour!
My husband & I did not have an excursion planned for our Ketchikan day. When we walked through the Visitor's Center, we saw the Discover Ketchikan booth and decided to reserve a last minute tour. We are so glad we did! Mason helped us at the booth, and he explained the difference between their tour and other companies. Al was the van driver and our tour guide. He went above and beyond at every stop of the tour, explaining the history of the town and especially the nature we were seeing- the salmon run, the bald eagle's nest, the bear, and lots more. We could tell that Al truly enjoyed what he was doing, and that made all the difference. We highly recommend this tour!
I'm so glad you had fun! It's so awesome to get people on board at the last minute, and we're glad you had a blast!
I booked this tour for 2 reasons: 1) Goal to see bears. Yes, I know there is NEVER any guarantee I was just hopeful. 2) I booked the 1 pm with the understanding they could return us to Ward Cove dock before our 4 pm all-aboard time for our departing ship. We confirmed this with our driver BEFORE we got on the tour. Our driver AL is a partner in the business called Discover Ketchikan and the tour we booked through VIATOR was the Ketchikan Rainforest Adventure Nature & Wildlife Tour on 8/12/26. The 12 passenger van was new and very comfortable. Our guide AL was knowledgeable about the local area and has a long history here. He explained to us that he was adjusting our tour to make it the best he could for us because it was currently high tide and that would make it difficult to see wildlife, like the bears. We visited many points of interest including the Salmon Ladder, a city park, a beautiful scenic public beach, a native totem pole circle area, plus he told us many interesting facts along the way as he pointed out so many interesting places. Towards the end we made in to Herring Cove to spot for bears. After staying about 10 minutes we were a bit disappointed we saw none, but he said we’d go on and return back in a bit to check again. Our next stop was a cute little waterfall nestled in the woods just off the side of the road. We were able to walk in several places and take some great photos. AL offered many times during our tour to take single, family and group photos for anyone who wanted them. He was photo knowledgeable and got so great shots for us! After leaving the waterfall we returned to Herring Cove and as soon as we pulled in another friendly tour guide grabbed Al and told him there was a bear out there! We were able to watch and video a single bear far across the water, under the walkway, in the tall grass milling about for a bit. Then it came to the waters edge and proceeded to swim across to a point closer to our side. It came up on the land split between us and walked around for a bit. Then someone announced they spotted another bear across the water under the walkway! Pretty soon the bear on our side decided to head back across. The second bear on the other side by the walkway, seemed to be kind of interested in the bear on our side going back across. The first bear on our side, made it back across but down aways from the second bear, and found a spot to tuck in and chill. The second bear stayed farther away along the water. Pretty soon her two cubs that AL identified and told us were about a year old showed up! They were very cautious because of the first bear, and there was a bit of standing going on and posturing. But ultimately, they were a blast to watch and take videos of! Turned out we had an excellent day with our guide AL. I would highly recommend this company and this tour with the understanding that seeing the bears or the eagles, which we did not see much of on this tour, is never promised. It’s purely by luck, nature’s will, the weather, time of day and all those factors. Regardless, we still enjoyed seeing the area of Ketchikan outside of town. Thank you, AL
We're so glad you had fun, and we hope to see you next time you're in Alaska!

Thanks so much for touring with us! We enjoyed you guys, and we'd love to have you again!
Family of 5, we came ashore with our cruise and found these guys through the visitor center. We booked a 4 hr kayak trip (saw sea lions and eagles) and then they arranged a “private” 90 min van tour to Herring Cove, where we saw black bears feeding just 50 feet away! Spencer and Cameron were our kayak guides and Mason was our van guide. They were all super friendly and engaging, with lots of cool information. It was our best day in Alaska. And half the cost of booking thru our cruise.
This was such a fun tour, and I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it! Please look us up next time you're in Alaska!
Truly a beautiful city to view and lots to see as far as the pacific coast goes and we saw a beautiful waterfall. The only thing I didn’t care for is all the van riding. I understand we need to be able to get to the different locations but I thought we would see more trail walking or some hiking on this excursion. Maybe spend a little bit more time exploring rather than riding.
Hi there, sorry you didn't enjoy the transit experience. We know it's hard to get back in the van after enjoying the natural beauties of Alaska. Hope you can come see us again one day!
Easy pick up, in a comfortable van. Driver was informative and friendly. We stopped at interesting places. No bear sighting on our tour but it was still enjoyable. We did see many bald eagles and some salmon. Also went to a beautiful waterfall.
We love showing off Alaska! Even without the bears, it's so pretty! Glad you got to see the magic we love sharing with people.
The tour was very good, managed to see many Eagles and a couple of bears. Al was very informative and helped with photos. The vehicle was very comfortable and clean. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the great review! We really appreciated having you guys on tour, what a fun day!
Great tour, friendly tour guide/driver and nice sceneries. Wish we would have seen the bears, but as luck would have it, no bears around. We have a situation however. My sister seems to have left her phone in the tour van. Looking to see if it would be possible to retrieve it. My phone number (Nancy) is (408)204-1538. Please contact me as soon as able. 🙏
Hey there, glad you two had fun, and glad we were able to get the phone back to you! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your cruise!
