We have a great tour with Nhien. Her English is excellent. She was well informed, friendly and helpful.

This tour was one of the best learning experiences I had in Vietnam. The guide Ha was incredibly knowledgeable, answered my (many!) follow-up questions well, and spoke English fluently. If I could have bought more guided tours from her specifically, I would have.

My husband and I joined a private tour with Vietnam Legacy Tours, and it was one of the most interesting experiences we had in Hue. Our guide, Sue, brought the imperial city to life in a way that went far beyond simply visiting photogenic landmarks. Instead of rushing from one building to the next, the walking tour was thoughtfully designed around the different spaces within the citadel. Sue highlighted small details we would have easily overlooked and provided the historical context that made everything far more meaningful. What I appreciated most was the pace and focus: rather than trying to cover as many sights as possible, the tour gave us the depth we needed to connect with the city’s heritage. I would highly recommend Vietnam Legacy Tours to anyone wanting a richer understanding of the imperial city.

It was great. The guide was waiting for us, ready to go. We found Nhiên to be very knowledgeable about the Citadel. She took time to explain the tour highlights and knew the right amount of time for breaks and photo stops. Plenty of flexibility to see more or less as you want. If you’re in Huẽ and want to see the Citadel, this is the tour you’d want. 10/10

Lam was exceptional! Not only was she proactive prior to the tour, but also assisted myself and my friend with getting transport after the tour. The imperial palace is outstanding, and with Lam's knowledge and friendly attitude, the whole experience was unforgettable.

A fantastic private walking tour with the very knowledgeable Ha, who pitched the style and pacing in a conversant and relaxed way. Two and half hours was sufficent in being provided an introduction, and becoming situated with/in the 13 Nguyen Emperor dynastic rule in Vietnam (1802 to 1945) and their location of power as the royal Capital at Hue Imperial Citadel (comprising The Forbidden City) all throughout a larger backdrop of the 19th and 20th-century epochs, including the turbulence of French colonial occupation, leading to Ho Chi Minh's Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Starting through the South Gate entry (Ngọ Môn, Meridian Gate; the main ceremonial gate functioning as the observation deck for royal events) we continued immediately to the throne room at the Palace of Supreme Harmony, then continued onwards within the Forbidden City clockwise to the West Gate (the exclusive entrance for Queen and concubines) and where in the the Empress Dowager residence (built in 1804) sits. The North Gate (Hòa Bình Môn, Peace Gate), primarily used by court ladies and eunuchs, orients towards the ornatel façade of the Kien Trung Palace (built 1921-23, destroyed upon the last Emperor's detroning in 1945, restored from 2019-24). The tour's last clockwise turn snakes through the Royal Library, Theatre and Gardens. I thouroughly appreciated Ha's explantions of Confucian feng shui elements in the architecture, also pointing out the visual details in motifs and symbols of power (the blue Phoenix and bat for the Empress Dowager, for instance). She also let me know about the anticipated 2027 film release of The Last Empress, a biopic filmed in the Citadel, which focuses on the 10-year marriage of Empress Nam Phuong and Emperor Bao Dai, exploring their emotional struggles and the collapse of the Nguyen Dynasty. A really enjoyable walking tour.

Great tour, I would highly recommend — definitely worth the money to understand the imperial city instead of going without a guide! Nhien was an outstanding guide! She gave us a very detailed and engaging explanation of each part of the Imperial City. She was able to answer all of the questions we had. Very kind, fun to talk to, and informative.

Nhien was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the imperial city. She helped us visualize what all of the dynasties looked like and dig in to the symbolism attached to every area. If we were to have gone without her, it would have been a completely different experience. Thank you so much for adding so much in so little time Nhien!

We had one day in Hue, and I’m so glad we spent it touring the beautiful imperial city with Matthew. Matthew has a fascinating perspective having studied history, and we appreciated having such an informative guide to walk us through the rich history of Hue. The architecture is remarkable and the tour is packed with food and photo ops along the way. We hadn’t had breakfast, and Matthew was happy to take us on a brief detour for coffee and a delicious soup classic to Hue. Matthew is very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. We highly recommend you let him guide you on your visit to Hue.
