This was an amazing tour, so much fun, very informative and our guide was fantastic! I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in architecture, the cities history, or the gilded age.
The guide, Luke, was great. It would be nice if mansions that are open to get in would be nice.
We had a wonderful tour with the knowledgeable, patient Luje. Our tour was 5 seniors. We met our friends in NYC as the halfway meet-ip spot for us. The meet upvwas great. Luke was early and we got to learn about the period as we waited. The buildings were a great mix of insude and outsude visits. Despite the heat, we definitely recommend this excellent tour along 5th Avenue. Luje stopped in shady spots when we stopped. Four insude spots provided a/c breaks and one water station and bathrooms.
Very interesting tour with a very motivated and truly well-prepared, friendly, and very attentive guide. It was nice to learn a part of New York's history through the stories and photos shown by the guide.
This excursion was misrepresented, we did NOT walk through Guilded Age Homes. We were allowed to enter only the foyer of two homes. Your add should CLEARLY state: No Entry into the homes.
As other reviews have mentioned, the parts of the homes that the tour enters are the parts that have preserved Gilded Age interiors. Other parts of the homes and other mansions have not preserved the Gilded Age interiors and are more like modern museums, while other mansions seen on the tour are today schools or privately owned. Thanks for your review.
Excellent tour for history buffs or fans of splashy architecture! Our guide, Care, was exceptionally well prepared and informed, steeped in knowledge of Fifth Avenue’s iconic grand homes. He was also wonderfully thoughtful, pacing the tour and building in shade and A/C breaks on a 90-degree August day. It would be nice if the tour could include more interiors, but many of the important buildings are closed to the public or have had their Gilded Age interiors renovated away …
Had a wonderful 2 hour tour with an excellent guide, Luke, who shared with us the “behind the scenes” stories of these beautiful mansions, the families that lived there and the people who designed and build them. Highly recommend taking this in and asking for Luke if he is available!
Great tour guide. Very funny, informative and succinct. I liked that he had the photos on his iPad because it really brought history alive. I was also glad we got to go Into the Cooper Hewitt. I think I hoped for a thread between the homes whether that be by date they went up, or social connections between the people he brought up… and maybe a handout of the homes with dates, architects and occupants, so I can continue to do my own research. I also wonder if there is a way to Incorporate the Morgan library into the tour since it has a more authentic interior. But all that being said, it was a really great tour and I loved the tour guide. It peaked my interest so much that I would like to take additional Gilded Age tours.
Our tour guide Zack was courteous, knowledgeable, witty, and professional. He also deftly referenced movies, television series, and actors who made the experience even more entertaining. Zack was mindful of our needs in light of extremely hot weather conditions. I would recommend Zack and viator.com’s Gilded Age tours to everyone.
Zach was an incredible guide with a plethora of information . He is very charismatic and provided many fun facts. Tour provided in shaded areas with planned breaks in AC and bathroom access.
