We home to the summit of Mt Etna with this company and had a wonderful day. Firstly, you need good hiking boots and warm clothing. Don’t worry if you didn’t bring these, the company can rent you all you need. We started out in a big bouncy, military style people carrier up a mountain trek then disembarked for the hike. It’s a pretty arduous hike and made more difficult with altitude. I exceeded my max HR more than once (don’t do this at the gym!!). You get right to the summit. Spectacular. The wind was fortunately blowing away from us, otherwise we may not have tolerated the sulphurous, acid gases which did make us choke and cough at times. A real experience! Way down was easier but puts a lot of pressure on your knee caps (mine aching still). The guide, Andrea, was excellent. Personable, knowledgeable and took care of the group. We had a great hike! Recommend for the adventurous and reasonably fit!
"Leonardo was absolutely fantastic! He took us on an incredible adventure all day, exploring the majesty of Etna and the breathtaking beauty of the Alcantara Gorges. His knowledge of the area was impressive, and he was able to tell the history and secrets of these places with passion and expertise. Leonardo was very helpful, attentive to our needs and made the experience even more enjoyable with his expert guide. He was able to perfectly balance the time between the discovery of natural landscapes and breaks to appreciate the beauty of the territory. A really excellent guide for those who want to experience Sicily at its best! 🌋🌊"
Drove to the meeting point, lots of equipment available to hire/borrow. Tour guides made sure everyone was well kitted out for the trek. There is a cafe, with a single toilet, for any pre trek supplies etc. Because of recent activity, we couldn’t use the cable car so were transported via military (large) 4x4 vehicles (approx 20 people per vehicle) across “old” lava flows up to the drop off point - I think this was at around 2200 metres above sea level. Views are spectacular. Then split into groups ( by language), we had total of 6 in our group. Guide was excellent, knowledgeable and very helpful and supportive. We trekked to the top of one of the craters (the least angry one!) which took us to around 3400 metres above sea level. Trek took around 3 hours to get to the lip of the crater, where we could look down inside the volcano- wonderful experience, incredible views as you would expect. My wife and I are in our 50’s and found the trek quite challenging but wonderfully rewarding. Good footwear is essential and the journey back to the transport only took about an hour, just like skiing down hill!. Take water and supplies, there are lots of opportunities for rest stops. All in all a really great adventure and so glad we did it.
Wonderful views, an amazing atmosphere, and so many emotions — Etna in December 2024 was an experience I’ll remember for a long time! I learned a lot of interesting facts about volcanoes, their history, and how they’ve shaped the landscape of Sicily. Leonardo was the best guide in the world — full of passion, knowledge, and a great sense of humor. Plus, the organizer made sure we were comfortable by providing the right shoes for exploring! 🌋✨
Guide didn't show up. They had us come at 8:30 while the station didn't open until 9:00. By whatsapping with someone vd organization, we were allowed to go with another organization. We never saw anyone at the desk, Etna est. Brach was the absent guide. We had not received any information about the food and drinks we had to bring. There was free parking provided which we had to discover ourselves after we paid... The ascent of Etna itself was definitely worth it. Luckily you could still buy food at the cable car. We had no further information afterwards as to why everything happened this way.
Hi, We are so sorry to read this review, because we have done our best in order to guarantee you the best experience. Unfortunately there has been a misunderstanding with the volcanological guide, but we have solved the problem in half an hour. You have done the tour as originally scheduled, without the duration of the tour being affected by this problem. We hope to see you next time, BR, Etna Est Staff
Great trip with a good and professional guide who gave himself time to explain and keep an eye on the people who were with (7) and constantly set a pace so everyone could be on the sometimes sharp rise and constantly assessed new routes if there were too many (loose tourists). Thank him a lot.
The absolute best. Level excursion. We were picked up in the structure and accompanied to the plateau of Etna. Giuseppe was a very professional guide and provided us with very precise assistance and information. The excursion lasted about six and a half/seven hours, from 08.45 to 15.30. Highly recommended absolutely.
Our trip to Mount Etna was amazing! We hiked from 2500m to 3000m, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. The weather was perfect — sunny with some snow, adding to the adventure. Marco, our guide, was fantastic, sharing fascinating information along the way. It was an unforgettable experience!
Fantastic day. The excursion guides Elia person very prepared, professional, nice, full of passion. Highly recommended as an experience
A few words to describe a beautiful experience like this. Excellent accompaniment by Luca. Starting from Piano Provenzana we first headed to the observatory and then descended along the craters dating back to the volcanic activities of 1947 and 2002. The Guide was able to show us with extreme passion and professionalism all the characteristics of the different volcanic activities. Recommended experience as well as the guides of Etna East.
