We had a great guide, Amy Lewis, who had to contend with taking us round in bad weather. It was interesting to find out what had been going on there in 1930's which most of the rest of the world knew nothing about at the time. She was able to show photos from the time which helped envisage some if it which was destroyed at the end of WW2

Tom is an incredible guide! He’s been in the area for 20+ years specifically because of his interest in WWII history, so he knows absolutely everything about the area and sites. Like thousands of period photos and all sorts of very specific details of everything that happened in the area. You literally could not find a better guide for the area

Sharon met as exactly where and when expected. She gave us excellent background stories and insider views of the areas surrounding the Eagle's Nest. Instead of wasting time in lines she took us to see several spots including the backup generator system and where the terrace of Hitler's house stood. We also had free time to explore the areas around the Eagle's nest. The visit to the Museum also held some interesting sidelights that she advised us to see (machine gunner's nest). All tolled, it was an EXCELLENT visit that would not have been possible without her assistance.

Amazing half day private tour with Tom! I thought myself pretty knowledgeable about WWII History, until I met Tom and learned even more today! Tom is a very professional and knowledgeable guide that our family highly recommend. We enjoyed our tour and learned so much more than we could have imagined about the significance the local area had both to Hitler and WWII. Tom is an excellent resource if you are looking for a comprehensive and informative look at the area of Obersalzburg and its history.

For those who do not know anything about the history of World War II it can be very instructive, but quite the opposite for those who know something about the subject. My humble opinion is that this interpretation centre does not provide any new and useful information on the subject, although there is no doubt that the place is very well presented and prepared for crowd visits. The so-called “Eagle’s Nest” is high above this interpretation center and is where Hitler’s summer mansion in Bavaria is located, which we – traveling by bus – could not access, but which is currently occupied by a luxurious restaurant, I think.

We absolutely loved our tour with Tom. He was wonderful — genuinely passionate about the material and it showed in every part of the conversation. In typical British fashion, he was unfailingly polite, empathetic, and attentive, creating a calm and engaging rhythm even in what is otherwise a very busy, high-traffic site. Tom managed to make the experience feel personal and even a bit VIP. He was thoughtful about positioning us behind or ahead of large groups, minimizing the tourist-crowd impact while giving us access to areas and details that felt “behind the scenes.” We never felt rushed — there was ample free time to explore independently — and the four hours with him passed incredibly quickly. His depth of knowledge about the region was impressive and refreshingly balanced. The focus wasn’t an over-sensationalized “Hitler tour,” but rather an insightful look at Berchtesgaden’s evolution — from Hitler’s first visits and the early years of the Reich to the site’s transformation after the war. Tom’s grasp of the local people, workers, and lasting regional impact brought nuance and humanity to what could easily be a one-dimensional story. He encouraged our questions, welcomed our observations, and adjusted seamlessly to our interests. The visit to the Berghof was far more powerful than expected — standing where major decisions were once made, with Tom showing us period imagery of those exact spots, truly brought the history to life. Overall, it was an exceptional, deeply memorable experience that felt both educational and personal. We couldn’t recommend Tom and Discover Eagle’s Nest more highly.
