Good driver and language skilled guide However, I asked in English and the tour was more in German(multilanguage your and I dont think this IS ok). also, i expect more explanations in Túnez and Sid
Good Wi-Fi signal and good service
Overall, the excursion was well organized, but it left me with mixed feelings in the end. The pickup was punctual, and fortunately, we were only a small German-French group. This meant that the guide did not have to constantly switch between five languages and could take much better care of all the participants. He was friendly, very competent, and told exciting and informative stories throughout the day. Especially in Carthage, it was evident that he possesses truly excellent expertise – a big compliment for that! The bus, on the other hand, was rather disappointing. It was not particularly modern, the air conditioning was too weak for the high temperatures, and larger panoramic windows would have made the ride significantly more pleasant. Our first stop was the Medina of Tunis. The view from a rooftop terrace with mosaics was particularly beautiful. However, you can only find this if you ask locals who will lead you up through a shop – a tip is expected in this case. The Medina itself did not really excite me, as mostly souvenirs and typical tourist items were sold. Unfortunately, lunch was the biggest downside for me. The restaurant was a large, rather uninviting hall right by the water next to the airport. Due to the low-flying airplanes, it was extremely loud there. I would have preferred an authentic restaurant with an Arabic atmosphere instead. The food was also rather mediocre – dry couscous with a small chicken leg. Of course, one cannot expect a wide selection on a group trip, but unfortunately, it was not to my taste. I really liked Sidi Bou Said. However, an hour's stay was a bit tight. On the other hand, the midday heat that day was also extreme. Carthage, on the other hand, was truly the highlight of the trip. The ruins were very interesting, and the guide brought them to life with his explanations. Without his exciting stories, the visit would surely have been only half as impressive. A small suggestion for improvement would be the order of the program points. Since the Medina is mostly covered, it could be well scheduled for the late afternoon due to the heat. What also bothered me was: I was picked up first and brought back to the hotel last. As a result, I was on the road for about ten hours in total and spent significantly more time on the bus than other participants. It would be fairer to reverse the order on the return trip so that everyone is on the road for approximately the same amount of time. Unfortunately, the return trip completely overshadowed the otherwise good impression. During the approximately one-hour drive, the driver and guide discussed continuously and very loudly with each other. This was not only disturbing but also seemed dangerous at times because the driver kept turning around while gesturing and did not fully focus on the road. As a result, the good mood that had been present until then was unfortunately lost. Conclusion: The guide was excellent, and Carthage is absolutely worth seeing. The organization and process were generally good; however, the bus, the disappointing lunch, and especially the unpleasant return trip significantly worsened the overall impression.
Comprehensive tour of some of the main destinations in the region, the morning spent in Tunis was very interesting and our guide perfectly explained the differences between the various Mosques. Also the souk was explained with plenty of information, specifically about the floriculture. After lunch, we went to the archeological sites of Carthage and that was incredible, the acumen with which the baths were built is impressive 2000 years later. The village of SidibouSaid was a little gem, perfect synthesis between the colours of Santorini e the windows of Malta. Both our guide and mini van driver were really nice, always available for advice or suggestions. You won’t waste a second of this day out.
I was eager to explore Tunisia during my week long trip so decided to book two tours. As I was based in El Kantaoui, I knew that the day would be long so booked an 8 hour tour. Unlike other providers I had to reach out for a pick-up time as nothing was received even the night before the trip. The provider then confirmed a 6.30AM pick-up when I booked an 8AM trip start time. Interesting this time was only communicated after the cancellation window had closed. 6.30AM is not what I bargained for. After getting in a minivan driving at ridiculous speeds, we joined the main tour at approx. 7.30AM and spent the next hour roaming Hammamet picking up everyone and their dog! 9AM ish, we start the drive to Carthage. We arrived at 10.10AM, ridiculous! Our guide was also underwhelming. I booked an English speaking guide but got a French and German speaking guide that spoke English under sufferance, he also mumbled and spoke too quietly. Saying everything three times was long and meant that the English guests got a short summary and less time at each stop, as after he concluded our part, his favourite phrase was, '10 mins then we leave'. How is that fair? He should have altered the order of the information pieces so it evened out. Carthage was nice (though the guide provided minimal information at the Roman Baths). Lunch was dreadful, the usual flavourless chicken and couscous. The restaurant owner even tried to scam us into paying for drinks that he knew we had purchased and finished before entering (there were no bins close by so we kept them with us). After visiting Sidi Bou Said (nice place but not much to do), we drove to Tunis to be scammed in the Medina, it's blah but again no guiding whatsoever, just 'walk along this street and back, see you at the bus at 4PM'. By this point I just wanted to go back to the hotel so I was relieved that after an 1 hour ish on the road, we switched to the smaller car, I though great, saves all of the hotel drop-offs. No, the driver thought it a great idea to drop of people in Monastir first, then us in El Kantaoui adding an extra 80 mins to our journey. Tiresome! We arrived at the hotel at approx. 19.10, so not an 8 hour journey but 12 hours.
We spent an absolutely beautiful day discovering Carthage, the Medina of Tunis and Sidi Bou Said. Between laughter, good humor and beautiful scenery, everything was perfect! Our guide Mo Dady was simply exceptional: from an incredible culture, polyglot, generous and open. He made every visit lively and exciting, and we even learned things about our own country from him! Many thanks also to our driver, very friendly and professional, who accompanied us all day with a smile. An experience I recommend 100%! — Stephanie (said Melanie)
This outing requires bcp of walking but it is very enriching and beautiful to see but the guide passes it very well with his humor his kindness and professionalism
I expected an English speaking guide ; though he is a nice guy but I was not able to understand any of the narrative , majority were French and few Italians so I felt lost
Lovely trip informative and fun Knowledgeable staff lovely experience. Nice cafe break mint tea was great
I’m giving it a one star even though the Tour guide worked hard translating in 3 different languages. Unfortunately we didn’t visit Byrsa Hill! Not going there is like not going to Carthage! I came back to Tunisia because because of Carthage. I came here in 2009 and didn’t particularly enjoyed it. We were suppose to go to Carthage and Byrsa Hill first but when the guide said first stop was Sidi Bou Said I knew it was going to be a let down. I didn’t care much about the place as it only had the Cafe des Delices as attraction it didn’t have as much history as Carthage! And the Medina it’s just like any Medinas. I feel very let down and angry that my time got wasted. It’s a lot of money and time spent. But that Tekkie Tours care I suppose. I would say another 4 letter word that begins with F and ends with K. But we are forced to be polite in writing reviews!!! The more bad reviews you get the less bookings you are going to get because people don’t want to be let down. They sell you something make you pay in advance and you are then at their disposal. If you want to be let down and waste your time then book with this company. If you don’t then find someone else. Viator don’t make it easy to contact them and air your disappointment to them. They got a slice of the cake too so they don’t care either.
