A tourist experience that allows you, however, to enter the rainforest safely (aboard a World War II vehicle), to admire typical and prehistoric animals in the wild park, and to attend typical indigenous shows. It doesn't happen every day to try a boomerang or to attend a spear hunting demonstration, to hear the sound of Aboriginal instruments and their dances. Therefore it is recommended

Disappointing – animal welfare is falling by the wayside
We booked a day package that included a visit to the Rainforestation Nature Park. Unfortunately, the park was far too touristy for our taste. However, I was really shocked by the animal husbandry.
A female dingo was sitting alone in an enclosure that was, in my opinion, far too small. The koalas were also kept individually; their enclosures seemed cold and not very natural. The tree kangaroo was also housed alone. I found the female wombat particularly sad, as she ran the same circle in the enclosure incessantly and had no way to retreat from the visitors.
If that is supposed to count as animal-friendly keeping, I am deeply disappointed. I will definitely not visit this facility again and cannot recommend it either, as I neither can nor want to support such a way of keeping animals.

Hi aliceimwonderland, thank you for sharing your opinion and for taking the time to raise your concerns. The health and wellbeing of our animals are our highest priority, and Rainforestation Nature Park is accredited by the Zoo and Aquarium Association, whose standards are guided by the 5 Domains of animal welfare: nutrition, environment, health, behaviour and mental wellbeing.
Some species are naturally solitary and are housed individually when this best supports their needs and reflects their behaviour in the wild. Our habitats are designed around the requirements of each species, with retreat areas provided where appropriate, and the female wombat has multiple spaces within her habitat where she can move away from visitors. Our trained wildlife team closely monitors every animal’s health, behaviour and environment, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.

disappointed - just a cash machine, far of nature
What can you say about the Rainforest Nature Park when there are more shops than butterflies? If you want to see the rainforest, go a little further north and discover the incredible Daintree Rainforest. I enjoyed the historic Train to Kuranda and the skyrail overlooking the rainforest. Without asking our consent, you are photographed (for example, at the exit of the skyrail and on the boat, as I noticed) for commercial purposes: to sell you your photos! For me, this is unacceptable. There are always shops for every activity, but here, the number is unbelievable at every turn. You can get a photo with a koala or a reptile by paying!! I don't understand how a country can tolerates the use of "wild" animals, or should they be considered domestic animals? Furthermore, the koalas are not native; they don't live in the rainforests. This activity is a supermarket and a cash cow. I regret going there.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear Rainforestation wasn't the experience you were hoping for.
Rainforestation Nature Park was created to connect visitors with the natural and cultural heritage of Tropical North Queensland through immersive rainforest experiences, Australian wildlife encounters and Indigenous cultural presentations. Animal cruelty
Honestly I’m saddened by the treatment of animals here! There was a huge crocodile in a very small enclosure and his mouth was being wedged open by a keeper with a stick to show the tourists its teeth (this is a living creature not a toy for entertainment). The koalas have near to no space on a concrete floor with a few tiny trees. And the poor dingo all on her own in a tiny space. In you have a love for animals please do not go here. I understand the park follows the Queensland regulations on animal welfare however these regulations are not good enough. I have been to many zoos and sanctuary’s that value their animals. This place does not seem to at all. DO NOT GO

Our koalas, dingoes and all other animals receive species-appropriate care in accordance with strict Queensland legislation and receive daily care, enrichment and husbandry from our dedicated wildlife team. We are proud to exceed the animal welfare standards required by Biosecurity Queensland and, as a member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA), our practices are independently assessed against internationally recognised welfare standards.

Rainforest and aboriginal heritage exploration
Explore the Australian rainforest by riding in an army duck boat driving through the densely wooded forest and then taking to the river and lake in the same vehicle. Your guide will tell you about the rainforest in and its flora and fauna. You also see a Pamagirri aboriginal dance performance with dancers in aboriginal dress accompanied by a man playing the diggery doo. They’ll show a spear throwing demonstration and a boomerang demonstration followed by you taking a turn at throwing a boomerang yourself. There is also a nature parks with koalas, dingos and cassowary birds. Lots of fun and loaded with info.

Distressing and sad!
Visited on a tour via Tropic Wings. The animal park distressed me. A koala with her joey crossed her arms and bowed her head to protect it when she heard people coming. Photos holding koalas and other animals. If you research its been shown that it distresses the animals and some places have banned it!! The rest of the animals looked unhappy at best. Duck Tour which is why i chose to come here is very poor. A short land track and a ride around a small lake. No animals just plants. Very dated Tourist Attraction, different from the other tours Ive been on in Oz, where its about nature and natural environments for the animals . Coaches full of tourists turning up. This park is totally unnecessary. Its just a money making tourist effort with no real consideration for nature and animals. Couldnt wait to leave and regret going. Left with sad images in my head not what I want from a day trip.

Hi loopy, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re really sorry to hear that your visit to Rainforestation Nature Park didn’t meet your expectations.
Please know that the wellbeing of the animals in our care is our absolute priority. Rainforestation is accredited by the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA), which upholds high standards of animal welfare under the 5 Domains — covering nutrition, environment, health, behaviour, and mental wellbeing. All of our enclosures also exceed the minimum requirements set by Biosecurity Queensland.
Koala photo experiences are managed under strict Queensland Government regulations, and our keepers always monitor the animals closely to ensure they’re comfortable and calm. If at any time a koala isn’t in the mood for interaction, they’re given the space to rest.
We truly appreciate your concern and feedback, as it helps us continue to educate visitors about Australia’s native wildlife while maintaining the highest standards of care.
