Our tour guide Alex was amazing! He was very informative and made sure everyone in the group was okay. Taking the ATV through the Red Valley was a beautiful addition to seeing Rainbow Mountain. Be prepared for a challenge getting to the mountain. However they do have optional horses and dirt bikes to take you to the top, for an additional cost. The bus ride to get there & back is quite bumpy. Overall this was an amazing experience and would highly recommend it!

The tour guide, Herman, was extremely rude and disrespectful to me from the first time he met me at pick-up. When he got in the van after picking me up at my hostel he said loudly to the driver that I was a "torta" and "maricona" meaning "dyke" in Spanish. They later continued to converse negatively about me the entire time I was on the tour throughout the day. The guide did this with not only with the driver but also workers on-site at Rainbow Mountain, Red Valley, and the restaurant which resulted in these workers laughing in my face and discriminating against me. When we reached the tour site (Red Valley, Rainbow Mountain) the guide approached me from behind and asked me: "where I was from?" while I was admiring the view. When I did not answer right away he yelled "torta" at me and walked away. Experiencing the guide's uncalled for behavior I wanted to change groups right away and I told him immediately at which point he gave a hypocritical smile, patted my arm, and said: "nothing was wrong." I wanted to speak to the tour operator and viator to inform them of what was going on but I had no phone service. The short ATV training then started. When we reached the point where it was no longer possible to pass by ATV the guide presented us with 2 options: walk or ride a horse. In no point did he state that we had to pay additionally for the horse. When the horse ride was finished the local worker who was guiding the horse demanded 80 soles from myself and the other riders. We told them the price of the horse ride was included in our tour. They then began to get aggressive with us at which point we told them to contact the guide for payment. We then continued walking to Rainbow Mountain. In the van the guide told us there would be workers on-site with llamas to take photos with in front of Rainbow Mountain and tipping was completely voluntary and not necessary. When we reached Rainbow Mountain the workers with the llamas were extremely demanding. They put their hands in our faces demanding tips at the beginning, while we were taking photos, and at the end. Remembering what the guide had told us in the van that: "Tipping was completely voluntary" my friends from the group and I did not tip. At Rainbow Mountain the guide approached me with a fake, happy attitude seeming to try to make amends with me. He offered to take some photos of me which I accepted trying to put his earlier mistaken behavior behind me and enjoy the rest of the day. Then he suddenly demanded that I needed to pay for the horse ride. I declined and said that he told us we had 2 options: to walk or ride a horse and that he never said we had to pay additionally for the horse. He then began to argue and threatened me with calling his boss to complain about me. I replied that I was going to complain about his discriminatory, insulting, and aggressive behavior towards me. I then left him and continued up the Mountain top. When we reached the drop-off site at the base of the mountain the guide approached me again while I was on the ATV. He demanded again yelling that I pay for the horse however, this time he came with multiple on-site workers including the horse guide. I again declined and told him when he presented the group with the 2 options of either walking or riding the horse he never stated we had to pay additionally for the horse. If he had said we had to pay additionally for the horse I would have declined as I have strong legs and am able to walk up the mountain. He then replied: "Ok. Come we are going to ask the group this?" He then made the group form a circle around me and asked whether I had to pay for the horse or not? He also reprimanded me telling the group that I did not tip the llama workers even though he had said it was completely voluntary during the van ride to the site. His actions were completely unprofessional. He put the group against me. No one from the group agreed with him that I should pay for the horse. They were all silent undoubtedly afraid of his belligerent behavior. One Cuban couple did speak out however. The Cuban lady also took the horse ride but was not being singled out as I was who was traveling solo undoubtedly because of the guide's discriminatory, homophobic behavior against me even though I am in fact "straight." Her husband was the only brave man who spoke up for me against the guide. He told him: "That you don't treat women that way. You do not put the entire group against her. You respect women especially those traveling alone." He said this multiple times to the guide as he was repeatedly acting belligerent against me along with the other on-site workers. At one point the guide threatened to leave me at the site if I did not pay for the horse ride to which I replied that he could not do that as I had paid for the tour which included full round-trip transport. On the van ride to the restaurant he continued to talk negatively about me (using derogatory gay slurs: "maricona" and "torta") to the driver and an on-site worker who had joined the group to the restaurant. When I finally had phone service mid-ride I immediately contacted viator seeking help and support. I requested to leave the tour immediately as I was having a panic attack as I have been disrespected by the guide and workers and put in a highly uncomfortable situation while traveling alone. The viator chat representative said he was going to contact the tour operator on my behalf requesting a ride to Cusco away from the belligerent guide however, this never happened and I was forced to endure the guide and the driver's drunken rant about me the entire ride back to Cusco. I did speak to the tour operator and they eventually agreed to pay for the horse ride after I explained the entire situation to them. This guide "Herman" should not be working with the public especially women. He does not give instructions clearly and is at risk of putting the tour operator in potential lawsuits for behaving unprofessionally and discriminatory against women traveling alone. Do yourself a favor and do not take this tour!

This was one of the best experiences of our trip to Peru! Everything was incredible, from the early pickup in Cusco to the impressive views of the Red Valley and the Rainbow Mountain. Our guide, Samuel, was fantastic. He was kind, patient, and made sure we were all okay, especially because of the altitude. He never rushed us and was always willing to help us. The ATV ride was a lot of fun and made getting to the mountain much easier, compared to doing the whole trek on foot. The scenery during the trip was absolutely stunning. It was definitely worth arriving early, as we were able to enjoy the place before it got too crowded and take excellent photos. Breakfast and lunch were also included, which were better than expected after starting so early and having such a long day. If you visit Cusco and are considering seeing the Rainbow Mountain, I totally recommend taking this tour. Excellent organization, beautiful landscapes, a very fun ATV ride, and an exceptional guide. Without a doubt, it will be an experience we will remember!

Nice trip with an ATV to the rainbow mountain and red valley. The manageded the trip so could take nice Fotos without so many people around.
