Aibek and Muhammad were great guides for our trek. We had such an awesome time and anyone thinking of doing this or any of their treks should absolutely go.
I joined Visit Alay's Best of Alay Mountains 8 day trek in August 2026 and it was great! Amazing mountains, a hard walk but I am almost 70, so glad I went. Our guides Sardar, Azul and the rest of the party were lovely, Sardar and Azul always thoughtful and watchful for our welfare, plenty of good food provided. My son came too and the company put on a lovely 21st birthday cake and party for him! If you go, do try to get some altitude acclimatization beforehand like they recommend, say a day or two up to at least 3000m.
This 5-day trek completely exceeded my expectations. The scenery was absolutely stunning, the food was also good. Suimonkul, our lead guide, and Abu, our assistant guide, were both fantastic — not only professional and attentive but also great company along the way. They made the whole trip fun and even made sure we had plenty of snacks to keep us going. They were both incredibly observant: Suimonkul even checked in on me when I didn't eat breakfast one morning, asking if I wasn't used to the food (I just wasn't hungry that early); and Abu would notice if anyone's cup was empty and ask if we wanted more tea, every single time. These little moments really showed how much they cared about our comfort. We even joked that if we tried to pour tea ourselves, we'd be 'stealing Abu's job'! This trek was absolutely worth it — highly recommended!
I did the 5-day/4-nights tour in the Alay mountains and can only recommend. The guides navigate you well through all altitudes and ascents which makes this spectacular nature accessible for all levels of hikers. The vegetarian food was delicious and plenty and every yurt and guest house stay a very individual peak into traditional Kyrgiz life. Absolute recommendation!
What an incredible experience. Transport, guides, equipment, accommodation and food were perfect! A great thankd to the Visit Alay team. Especially to Musa (guide), Nurbolot (assistent guide) & Tyny (horseman)!
Everything went perfecrly. It was super well organized. The guides were awesome with us
I came to Kyrgyzstan mainly to do the Ak-Suu Traverse unsupported, so the Alay trip started as a formality. As a Chinese national, I can't enter visa-free, which means I needed a tour agency to invite me. Visit Alay provided the visa letter, so I booked their (relatively) cheap option to check the box and get on with my real plan. Five days later, it turned out to be my favorite thing I did all summer, and after finishing both treks, I think the Alay Mountains are more beautiful than the Ak-Suu Traverse. The logistics were handled completely. Food, accommodation, and transport were all handled at a price that felt reasonable. I originally signed up for the eight-day version with the extra peak, but nobody else booked, and they don't run a tour for a single person. From what I heard and from looking at the map, the only real addition is that one summit, where you might see Lenin Peak in the distance if the weather cooperates, and the climb over the pass to get there is strenuous. Our guide himself said he doesn't enjoy going up and over it. If you like suffering, go for it. Otherwise, the five-day tour is more than good enough and covers the best of the range. Our guide was Aibek, and he's a big part of why the trip worked. Young, and our group was five guys between 25 and 35, so the whole thing had a good energy to it. His English is pretty good, which mattered because we asked him about everything. I flew straight into Osh and did this trek before anything else in the country, never even touching Bishkek, so this was my introduction to Kyrgyzstan. I asked him about regions I was planning to hike later, about food, about how people actually live out here, and he answered everything. He's knowledgeable and also just fun to hike with. I'm an experienced hiker and didn't need much hand-holding, and the group was fit and young enough that we moved easily. Btw, while I was out on the Ak-Suu Traverse, I told every hiker I met to go to Osh and book this five-day tour with Visit Alay, because the views in the Alay are better.
We had a great group and friendly guide, Aibek. The hike was beautiful and challenging, but doable for (fit!) first time hikers. Everything was well taken care of and Visit Alay enables local people to own and run some of the yurt camps we stayed in. The majority of the camps felt authentic and the people were friendly. The yurt camps got cold but the stoves made it comfortable. Not all beds were great. We definitely recommend this trek and look back on an amazing experience.
Overall, I found this eight-day Alay Mountains trek by Visit Alay to be excellent but certainly one that challenges your fitness! Our group was small enough to allow us to get to know each other a bit while Daniel and Simon were excellent guides. The yurts were comfortable and kept us dry, while the food served was delicious and plentiful. I would certainly recommend Visit Alay to anyone visiting Kyrgyzstan, but would recommend bringing a book or two given the abundance of downtime.
My wife and I just completed the 8 day Best Of Alay Trek as a way to celebrate our 20th anniversary and my 50th Birthday. We both felt extremely grateful to our guides Sadarbek (lead guide) and Arzybai. My wife suffers with Acrophobia (not an easy prospect for a guide) and it's testament to Sadarbeks incredible support, 'can do attitude' and attentiveness to the group as a whole that he was able to identify and individualise attention/support and meet the varying needs of the group without any issues. He was 100% alert and extremely proactive, organised and safety conscious. Thank you Sadar for making our trip so special! You are a kind spirited and generous individual and a great ambassador for Visit Alay. Other useful points - we were group of 9 and it was honestly like travelling with close family - thank you guys you were all amazing and we were proud to share our adventures with you. We all had some laughs together, shared stories, ate together, listened to music and took part in evening activities. Horsemen - Special thank you to Malik and Toko - you stood up to everything the weather threw at you, kept smiles on your faces at all times and ensured that we were ok and your beautiful horses looked after Food/Water - There's no shortage of it. Dietary needs were met and everything was fresh and home cooked. Surprises - One of the group turned 21 during the trip and a large birthday cake (delicious)and souvenirs were presented to them. This was a really lovely touch. I enquired about folk singing/music and within 15 mins our tour guide had produced a singer who played several folk songs for us whilst strumming a stringed instrument. Kumys / Kumis - Just when you thought you'd escaped without trying a Kyrgyz classic along came the white liquid to tickle those taste buds. For me like a mix of cider and a hint of something else. Everyone should try it! The trek - well these 50 year old bones managed it and I'm not the fittest. It was reassuring to know that Sadar always had our backs. Sometimes he would sprint up and down the mountains just to check in on us (not joking this guy is fit!). Highly recommended ++++++++
