The tour with the off-road vehicle was a complete success. Action, great landscapes, and many animals of the Namib. Just like the final picnic on a dune, they made the day an unforgettable experience. Our tour guide Riaan was able to give us a lot of information about the landscape and the region. It was incredibly fun to spend the day with him.
Gerhard was an excellent self drive guide delivering instructions via a two-way radio which were always concise and very safe which gave us the highlight of our African trip.

We took the self drive option using the company’s car, as our hire car excluded driving on the dunes. Car was in good condition and well up to driving up the dunes. Our guide Riann was in a car in front giving clear calm directions over the radio when necessary. Plenty of stops for photos and light lunch. Dune driving was great as was the drive next to the sea up to Sandwich Harbour. If you’re not a confident driver then I’d stick with the standard tour but if you can follow instructions and maybe have a little off road experience I’d go self drive all the way.

Driving between the dunes and the ocean to reach Sandwich Harbour is absolutely stunning, and the way back over the dunes is just as thrilling — pure adrenaline! Rian is a fantastic guide: fun, knowledgeable, and just the right amount of crazy behind the wheel, which made the whole trip even better. A true character and a great guy. The trip to Sandwich Harbour is only possible with a guide. So if you want to go there, you need a driver/guide. For us, it was Winton, and he did a great job - we had a lot of fun!
