Great boat tour, perfect on a warm summer day! Definately recommend seeing ghent through the canals.
Great guide who shared fun stories and history in an upbeat way. Was obviously enthusiastic about her home city.
Enjoyable canal tour! Quick check-in
Lovely way to see Ghent . Guide was very informative
Cheaper to book online than on the day. Good guide to ghent and the driver shared good tips. Well worth it.
Good introduction to the History of Ghent /Gent. Not a long trip but you get to see the key parts of Ghent/Gent town whilst enjoying a sit down. Tour guide fluent in lots of languages.
Lovely cruise through town with a very informative & funny guide (Peter?) Was a great way to learn things about Ghent without lots of walking
I participated in a 40-minute city tour by the boat company on a Saturday. The boat was quite full, but there was enough room to sit. Due to the strong sun, parasols are provided. The tour is conducted in English, French, and Dutch, although the content is not identical, so it is helpful to speak more than one language to get a lot out of the tour. Otherwise, you unfortunately miss a lot of interesting information about the buildings on the water. The view of the city from the water is great, and you also travel away from the tourist area to explore the city.
Hot day in Ghent. This is a canal tour to see the amazing architecture from a unique perspective, the canals of Ghent. Problem was, the tour company gives anyone who wants a giant colorful umbrella for shade. These umbrellas are massive and with half of the people shading themselves, it is nearly impossible to see anything. Anyone behind the first row of the boat is blind to whatever is ahead. Those of us sitting in the center of the boat are likely to get blocked from seeing the sights by those sitting on the gunwales and holding umbrellas. I was hoping that once we left the dock, our captain-tour guide would ask passengers to lower their umbrellas. Nope. I would have also liked the captain-tour guide to request that guests not talk during the explanations in other languages so that those speaking that language could hear. That didn’t happen either, which meant that two thirds of the narration was in another language and the one-third in one’s native language is drowned out by people talking. It’s me, I know. But the fact that I couldn’t see most of the sights, nor hear the commentary, led me to think this tour was a waste of time and money. People walking in the sun might consider bringing hats. The canal boat company should instruct their captains-tour guides to mention guests be respectful of others on the boat. Finally, the canal boat company should get rid of the umbrellas. Sorry, but I wouldn’t recommend the tour without some of the above recommendations being put in place.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. On particularly hot summer days, we provide parasols to help protect our guests from the sun and make the tour as comfortable as possible. We understand, however, that they can sometimes obstruct the view for other passengers. Your comments highlight an important balance between providing shade and ensuring everyone can fully enjoy the sights. Providing umbrella's is a choice we make to ensure the safety on board for those who do not wear hats. We also appreciate and understand your remarks about the onboard commentary. While we cannot ask our guests to remain silent during the tour, we do encourage everyone to be respectful of those around them so that all passengers can enjoy both the views and the explanations. Thank you again for your honest feedback and your suggestions. They are valuable to us as we continue to improve our tours, and we hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back for a better experience in the future.
Great way to see the city from the canal. Just be aware that the guide will likely need to interpret in multiple languages for the entirety of the tour, which means less information can be given on the sights passed. It is still worthwhile for the money!
