I really enjoyed the...

I really enjoyed the tour. Mick, our tour guide, did a great job. He provided us with a lot of information and answered all our questions patiently. At each stop we had enough time to enjoy the scenery. There was never a rush. We spotted a lot of wildlife. I recommend the tour.

3 day Flinders Ranges Adventure with Steve

I had booked the 3-day Flinders Ranges tour over the Easter weekend as part of my effort to explore as much of Australia as possible in 3 months... looking back on the entire trip half a year later, this tour was definitely one of the highlights. I was picked up from Adelaide by driver/guide Steve, where I learned that I was the only person on the tour! Unlike other tour companies that cancel for low numbers (I had 3 other tours canceled during my trip and it sucks), if you book this tour you are going on this tour. I loved it! I climbed up front with Steve and we had a great 3 days driving around. Conversations covered a wide range from the expected (local history/geography/etc) to the interesting to the absurd and I enjoyed every minute of it. Steve was not afraid to take the path less traveled and his knowledge of the area led us to some great spots. One of these side quests resulted in us driving behind at least 20 kangaroos bouncing along and I have a feeling this will stay on my top 5 life experiences list until I die because it was absolutely incredible! Food stops were great, and Steve seemed to have friends everywhere for us to visit with. The tour was fantastic and I really appreciated being able to see this slice of the Outback.

3 wonderful days exploring the Flinders Ranges

The Flinders Ranges make for a terrific destination to visit from Adelaide. You get stunning scenery, old mining towns as well as interesting wildlife and plants. I went with SA Eco Tours on their 3-day trip. Was picked up from my Adelaide Hotel and there were just three of us, along with Chris our guide/driver. Chris has a tremendous amount of knowledge about the entire area, which he is eager to share. He has even created his own informational books and maps to help appreciate what you are seeing. He was an enthusiastic and fun guide, who also was happy to adapt to the needs of the group. We stayed for two nights at Wilpena Pound which was a great base, with good food at their restaurant. I would recommend the safari tents there (with heating/AC and bathroom with hot water) as they are very peaceful and you'll be woken up by birdsong in the morning. I also strongly recommend doing the optional flight, as it gives you a great appreciation for the interesting geology and geography of the region. My highlight was probably the 2-hr roundtrip hike up to the rim of Wilpena Pound with stunning views at the end. The kangaroos grazing outside my tent in the morning was a close second. All in all, a tour I thoroughly recommend. SA Eco Tours do a very good job. My only regret was that I could not have done a longer tour. With the 3-day tour, you spend most of day 1 and day 3 driving, albeit with many interesting stops along the way. But if you can, do a 4- or 5-day tour.

3 Day Flinders Range & Outback.

My wife and I just returned from the 3-day Flinders Ranges & Outback Tour and could not be more pleased. We were surprised when we found out it was just us and our tour leader Mick. He advised us that his tours go regardless of how many sign up. Mick was amazing as he asked us what we wanted to see and adapted the tour to our choices; spending more or less time at each location as we preferred. Immediately it was obvious that Mick knows the areas we travelled to and quickly pointed out kangaroos, emus and a number of other species. His knowledge of Flinders Range and his willingness to stop explain the topography and history of the area was invaluable. He also picked fun (and delicious) spots to shop for snacks and lunches which was especially fun because he seemed to know everyone and they quickly engaged us in conversations. These were unique spots that we probably would never had picked without his input. When I mentioned in passing that I wanted to get my grandson an authentic boomerang, he took us to an Aboriginal acquaintance of his who had a small shop with items he had handmade. If you are considering a tour in the area I would definitely suggest you book this tour. 5 star all the way!

Flinders Range 3 days an experience

The trip was well organized and we were well looked after. To put it bluntly, we would not do this trip again and would not recommend it. Of the three days, two full days are spent on the road, travelling to and from the destination. Only on the second day are you on site in the resort in the Flinders Range. On the second day, we went on a hike in the morning, then relaxed by the pool with lunch. In the early afternoon, we set off and looked at some rock formations. At night, we made a detour to look at the stars. Which felt like too little. Due to the long distance from and to Adelaide, we had to start the journey back after breakfast on the third day. To be honest, we found that a bit scary. Our driver drove too fast on the back roads for our liking. It was not a pleasant driving experience. We would not book this trip again. The resorts are easily accessible by road with your own rental car and guided tours can be booked locally. Then you can plan the journey there and back at your own pace and even stop if you see a nice photo opportunity. We saw a whole bunch of emus and kangaroos and would have loved to take a photo. But we were going too fast.

Thank you for your message Karin. We are sorry to hear your trip wasn't what you were expecting. The 3-Day Flinders tour is for anyone who's looking to get a taste of this wonderous part of South Australia. You could go it alone, however you wouldn't have the benefit of an expert local guide & access to remote areas, gorges & lookouts. Our guide is happy to stop any time for photo opportunities . The area is abundant with Kangaroos, Emus & other wildlife. It would be both dangerous & costly if you were to hit one in your vehicle. You also run the risk of fatigue if you were to drive this rugged terrain yourself. Our vehicles are fitted out with all the latest safety gear including Satellite communication. I will flag your comment about the speed to our driver. Regards, Deborah

Outstanding

This was an outstanding experience. Steve took myself and my wife and one other person on the 3 day Flinders Ranges tour. Every aspect was superb, including the itinerary, the descriptions, humour, accommodation at Wilpena Pound, and the overall experience. Strongly recommended as a unique and fascinating part of Australia.

Well done!

The three-day Flinders Ranges Tour was worth the money and the wait. There were three things that made the tour wonderful. First, the well-curated sites to visit for each day. Second, and as a result of the first, the presence of a mix of culture, wildlife, and wilderness (as stated in its description) in the entire tour experience. Finally, a knowledgeable, open-minded, and lively guide with good choices of music. Personally, the trip generated a congratulatory feeling towards myself for deciding to be in this tour. #saecotours

Flinders Rangers Tour

This was a very small tour, just me and my friend but because there were just 2 of us it was very personal. Our driver/guide Steve was extremely knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. We saw a lot of wildlife and beautiful scenery. The stay at Wilpena Pound was comfortable and the meals were better than I expected. There was another eco tours group staying there and we joined them for dinner and met Mick who was hosting the other group. A very enjoyable night and it was interesting meeting the other group. Really enjoyed this experience.

Don't pack a raincoat

We spent three days on this tour over the October long weekend. Alas, the vehicle we ended up in was a rattly old rental- the customized tour 4WD was out of action after hitting a kangaroo. Which I think you could honestly say- only in Australia. There were so many charming things about this tour, it would be difficult to know where to start. Firstly, Mick, our guide and the company owner, is a grizzled bush raconteur. he has been everywhere, is across everything, and has a thousand stories. He seems to be doing this job for the pleasure of it as much as anything else. he knows just enough, without knowing way too much, so as a passenger I was never bored. There was a diversity of ages, body types and primary language in our tour, and he made a fighting effort to ensure everyone's comfort. Secondly, the resort we stayed in at Wilpenia Pound was gorgeous, and also co-owned by the local indigenous community. There was a welcome to country ceremony at night that, God help my cynical heart, drew me in and made me feel both tearful and respectful. There were options to camp or stay in the motel units, and we opted for the motel- this turned out to be a wise idea because heat, flies, critters, and noise. we were able to retreat at night and watch television rather than be rather too closely associated with the local wildlife. Having said that, we kept literally stumbling over kangaroos, who clearly didn't get the 'be afraid of people' memo as they hopped all over the resort. The units were comfortable and extremely clean, without being way over the top in either quality or price- resounding box-tick from me. The scenery was amazing- it has not rained to any extent in nearly eight years, and we saw every permutation of dry, from 'looks a little parched'', to ''My God, how can anything survive this?'dustbowls. Crazily, the land is crisscrossed with dry creek beds that have clearly seen some mega-floods in the past. Who could figure it? And now for the only con- the flies. I dont know what they live on when they cant get tourist, but my mouth and nostrils seemed to send them into a frenzy'in the wilder areas, although the resort was fine. Invest in a hat with a net and you will have no regrets. So- go on this tour. You will see some amazing scenery, hear some great stories, and have a great time in a part of the world that really has no parallel.

Fun in the Flinders

We had a great tour! Our guide (Ben) was informal & was able to alter itinerary to fit in with our needs. We had great walks, saw the Flinders' gorges, wildlife & mountains in their spectacular glory & had a lot of fun along the way. Ben managed the temperaments of his group members in an effective manner, very professional & tactful, great food & accommodation, it was the best!
