The part of Morocco I didn’t expect to love this much
Before doing this tour, I was mostly excited about seeing the Sahara, but I ended up enjoying the entire journey from Fes much more than I expected. There was something special about watching the landscape gradually change during the drive, from greener areas and mountain scenery to the dry, open landscapes closer to Merzouga. Once we arrived, the dunes were even more impressive in person. The camel ride around sunset gave us a chance to slow down and really appreciate where we were, and the evening at the desert camp was probably the most memorable part for me. Sitting there after dinner, away from the noise and lights of the city, felt completely different from the rest of my trip. It was a busy two days, but it gave me a much better sense of Morocco beyond the usual city visits.

The moment Morocco turned into a different world
The drive from Fes to Merzouga was long, but honestly, it became part of the adventure. I loved watching the scenery change from the mountains and cedar forests to the wide-open desert landscapes. Arriving in Merzouga and seeing the dunes for the first time was probably my favorite moment. The camel ride at sunset was beautiful, and spending the night in the desert with dinner, music and the quiet of the Sahara made the whole experience feel very special.

A Short Adventure Through Some of Morocco’s Best Landscapes
I’m really glad I chose to make the trip from Fes to Merzouga. Along the way, the scenery kept changing and gave us a glimpse of just how diverse Morocco is. When we finally reached the dunes, the first view of the Sahara was incredible. The camel ride during sunset was my personal highlight, followed by a relaxed evening at the camp with dinner and traditional music. Waking up in the desert the next morning was also something I won’t forget. It was a busy two days, but absolutely worth adding to my itinerary.

A Beautiful Detour From the Usual Morocco Itinerary
This was such a memorable addition to my Morocco trip. The drive from Fes gave me the chance to see landscapes I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise, and the contrast between the city and the Sahara was incredible. Once we arrived in Merzouga, the camel ride through the dunes at sunset was definitely the moment that stood out most for me. The camp was welcoming, dinner was enjoyable, and the traditional music around the fire created a really nice atmosphere. Waking up in the desert the next morning felt surprisingly peaceful, and I’m very happy I made the decision to include this experience in my itinerary.

The Kind of Evening You Wish Could Last Longer
I honestly didn’t want this experience to end. The camel ride through the dunes at sunset was beautiful, and there was something really peaceful about being surrounded by the desert with nothing else in sight. The sandboarding was a fun surprise, and afterwards the camp had such a warm atmosphere with tea, dinner and traditional music around the fire. Everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome without making the experience feel rushed or overly touristy. Spending a little time outside looking at the stars was the perfect way to finish the evening. It was definitely one of my favorite memories from Merzouga.
