Ten days ago, my wife and I had the opportunity to travel to Sanliurfa, Turkey to visit Gobekli Tepe and other Tepe sites. I arranged a two-day tour with Gobekli Tours, led by Taha, a specialist in Gobekli Tepe. I reached out to Taha several months ago to arrange a tour. He called me within minutes and I knew immediately that I had chosen the right team. The next day, I received a proposed itinerary that included picking us up at the airport, transporting us to our hotel, transporting us for the two days to 5 different tepe sites, the Sanliurfa Museum, a walk through the city and the marketplace and returning us to the airport. We had three guides. On day one, Yusef spent the entire day with us and we visited two tepe sites, the museum, the town, and we had a great lunch together. Yusef was kind and fun, well informed, and well connected in the city. Mark was our driver throughout the two days. He was kind and funny, and even though he did not speak English, we managed just fine. Mahmout was our guide on day two. Also very kind, very well informed, and eager to make a great experience for us. Our first stop was Gobekli Tepe where me met up with Taha and he gave us the tour, as that is his specialty. Taha was everything I expected, kind, warm, well informed, and he filled each moment with rich information and the latest research that is emerging at the site. It was mind-blowing! We then proceeded to two other sites with Mahmout before heading to the airport. One of those sites was Karahantepe, another mind-blowing experience. The entire two-day experience far exceeded our expectations due to the special care that Taha and his team put into our itinerary. Many thanks to this group for going the extra mile for us. We strongly recommend that, if you are traveling to Sanliurfa, contact Gobekli Tours. You will not regret it.

This was such an amazing experience. We had very little time in Sanliurfa and initially planned to just do everything on our own but so glad we chose to go with this company. Taha and Mehmet were very knowledgeable and it just wouldn’t have been as impactful without them. We learned and saw so much within a short period of time, though I wish we had longer. Our driver, Mark, kept us cool and always had bottled waters ready. We went as a family with two teenagers and two grandparents. 10/10 experience!!

I booked two days trip with Mr Taha. He arranged a pickup from airport and even dropped me off after the trip. It was a small group tour where it was me and a couple visiting from Dubai. The company was great. Day 1 I was picked at the airport by Mr Mehmut, our guide. We went to Mount Nemrut which is peaked by Tumulus (a mound over grave). However the more recognizable part of the mountain is ofcourse the statues(or their faces). Slightly destroyed by humans but otherwise amazingly preserved by nature. Views from the peak are bonus. Thereafter we headed for lunch at a very homely place picked by Mr Mehmut. After lunch we visited some other sites related to kingdom of Commagone(statues at the peak also belonged to the same kingdom). We then visited a Roman-era bridge over the river none other than The Euphrates, mother of the oldest civilization in the world.And ended the day with another Tumulus ( Karakus). The next day was the day for highlight of the trip, Gobeklitepe. We met Mr Taha there and he walked us around the site and explained each enclosure in great detail. If you have knowledge about history of human development , this place will blow your mind off. Honestly it was much more amazing than I expected. We then followed it up with Turkish lunch. And then back in Sanliurfa for the museum. The museum surprised me as much, a grand museum just for the discovery from the region of Sanliurfa itself, and totally justified.This itself tells a lot about the region. And it was not over, there is another museum for Roman - era mosaic work!! Then the old town which I learnt is a pilgrimage center for being the birthplace of Prophet Abraham. And ofcourse Turkey and souk( Market) goes hand in hand, so we concluded it with a short visit to the market.

Our guides from Gobekli Tours - Taha Ozyavuz and Menekşe - were fantastic over the course of our two day tour of the region. They were both very knowledgeable about the archaeological digs at Gobekli Tepe, Karahantepe and Mount Nemrut. There was so much history to take in. The whole trip was an amazing experience! Definitely do it again.

Absolutely amazing trip. We did not have a lot of time so Taha packed 5 amazing stops into 4 hours including a delicious lunch. He gave us detailed overview along the way, detailed narrative at the sights. Understood exactly what we were looking for. Once in a lifetime trip - worth every $$. Thank you Taha!

Taha the tour operator was very efficient and generous with time. The tour guide Mehmet was very generous with information too. The tour is mind blowing and alters one’s perspective of humanity. Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe may represent an early stage in humanity’s transition from instinct-driven behavior toward increasingly organized society, where advancing architectural knowledge-exemplified by the monumental T-shaped pillars, which may have combined a structural role comparable in principle to modern post-and-beam or I-section construction with a surface for artistic symbolism which was integrated with ritual, the human body, sexuality, and the animal world to give meaning and boundaries to fundamental forces such as reproduction, aggression, life, and death. It leaves one wondering what could have happened and the end of that civilization still a puzzle. This was a super Wow experience!

Göbekli Tours was terrific. The Driver, Mark was awaiting us at the airport despite our flight delay. The vehicle is lovely, clean & comfortable. He was very kind, carrying our bags and immediately offering water He connected us via speakerphone to our guide, Taha, who greeted us warmly and confirmed Tuesday’s pickup for our private tours to Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe Taha speaks perfect English (he went to college in Miami) and is extraordinarily knowledgeable about the archeology and history of the sites, having majored in the disciplines. He’s friendly and so passionate about the subjects that he and other archaeologists visit digs for pleasure when they are not working. It is well worth having a private guide versus a group tour — for the flexibility and freedom from crowds. I highly recommend Göbekli Tours; specifically Mark & Taha and suggest that you include Karahantepe on your visit, as it receives far fewer visitors, offers an intriguing contrast — and you may even get lucky enough (as we were!) to see a fresh dig!!! Mark picked us up on time the next morning from our hotel, and gave us a perfect stress-free ending to our wonderful trip.

Gobeklitepe had been on my bucket list since I was a kid and I finally was able to see the site with the hep of Taha and my guide Mehmet. I couldn't have had a better experience. Besides seeing Gobeklitepe, I was able to see a vast amount of other sites and exceeded my expectation. My only regret is that I didn't book additional days. I hope to visit again one day soon and will use this company.

I found out about Gobekli Tour through my hotel. The guide was excellent! Because not only did they follow me to Gobekli Tepe and the museum, but they took me to visit two very recently discovered sites, letting me meet the archaeologists. Recommended!
