Superb excursion

An excursion with a great guide, Ahmed, whom we thank for his kindness and for sharing the culture of Tunisia. We will keep a very good memory. Thomas's family and grandpa

Great tour, but not conducted in German as booked.

The trip itself was very interesting and the tour guide, Mr. Dr. Wassim Daghrir, was exceptionally competent and engaged. We were very satisfied with his performance! The tour was advertised as a German-speaking excursion and was booked by us as such, but it actually took place exclusively in English. It was a mixed group with predominantly English-speaking guests. German-speaking guests were able to ask questions and received explanations in German; however, this does not correspond to a German-speaking tour as advertised. I find it particularly disappointing that the merging of the different language groups was already known to the organizer before the tour began. Had we been informed in advance, we could have decided whether we wanted to participate in the tour under these conditions. Since language is an important booking criterion, we were very surprised by this. Had we known in advance that the tour would primarily be conducted in English, we would have chosen another German-speaking alternative. Therefore, I recommend that the provider transparently inform future customers before booking if a tour cannot be conducted in the booked language due to the composition of the group. not be conducted in the booked language. I give a clear recommendation for the tour guide himself, but unfortunately deduct points for the failure to adhere to the advertised service.

Top notch sightseeing excursion

From start to finish the tour was well organised and enjoyable despite the long periods of coach travel, over 1200 kilometres in 2 days. Our guide Hamadi and driver Mr Mangee were both friendly and ultra professional to the mixture of nationalities on the coach and various home languages. Day 1 starts early with pick ups from the various hotels in Hammamet. We were fortunate as ours wasn’t until 06.40 am and 2 more stops followed. The itinerary was clearly explained. We travelled first to the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem which was stunning especially as you’re able to access all the site from the underground chambers which housed the animals/slaves to the top tiers via steep steps. The next destination was Matmata where we visited a Troglodyte home (cave dwelling of the indigenous Berber community) which was insightful. We then drove to the Sidi Idriss Hotel for a traditional Tunisian lunch of chicken couscous and egg brique with salad which was OK. Here, we were able to visit the set of where one of the Star Wars movies was filmed. I think it was rundown as old tables, chairs and junk were stored in the various rooms but if a fan, it would be interesting. From here, we made our way to Douz stopping to buy headscarves at a shop (didn’t bother) and next to the camel station for either a camel or carriage ride across the Sahara which took 30 minutes each way. En route, we were accosted by locals trying to sell us scarfs or have photos taken with desert foxes. I wouldn’t normally have taken this element (opted for carriage due to knee injury) but decided to as I most likely wouldn’t come back here. After a long day, we finally travelled to our overnight hotel namely the Sun Palm in Douz. The food was OK, a buffet for both dinner that evening and breakfast the following day. Our room was spacious but dated. The bed & pillows very uncomfortable like bricks and the bedding itchy. There were used toiletries in the bathroom, only a few sheets of toilet roll, the handheld shower only pumped out cold water and the towels looked and smelt used. Luckily, we’d brought our own supplies so used those. Day 2 started at 4.45 am with a drive to the salt lakes at Chott de Djerid to watch the sunrise. This didn’t happen due to the low cloud and rain. We then took a 4x4 ride across the desert to another movie set. The landscape was stunning and was the location used for the planet Tattoine in the Star Wars movie the Phantom Menace. The buildings were rather dilapidated and rubbish was strewn everywhere which is normal for Tunisia. We were really fortunate and saw several caravans of wild camels in the area. We then stopped for lunch at a hotel which was very nice albeit to access it, we drove through what resembled a war zone. Our final visit was for a photo stop of the mosque of Kairouan which could be viewed from the roof top terrace of the gift shop. Inexpensive souvenirs could be purchased here too. This finished about 16.00 pm. We then made our way back to Hammamet and were dropped off at our numerous hotels. We reached ours at 5.30 pm to give an idea of the timeline. The tour is excellent value for money as it incorporates all the must see sights in Tunisia. The coach we travelled on was only 3 weeks old and very comfortable with USB ports. The distance travelled was incredible but regular stops were made every 90 mins for 20 minutes or so to allow snacks/drinks to be purchased and for toilet breaks. Usually, these locations also had a cash point so dinar could be withdrawn as wherever you visit requires cash. Tunisia is still a very non debit card country. My only criticism would be that water should be included in the price. My tips for anyone participating on this excursion would be bring a change of clothes & toiletries, drinking water, toilet paper as it’s not as always available, a phone charger, something to read or a tablet to watch movies/play games, snacks as the days do feel long and we never ate until 2 pm on our first day plus a neck cushion. The tour was so well planned and executed that we gave both our guide and driver a well earned tip.

A lot of Tunisia in two days

800 miles of Tunisian roads and amazing sites in two days! This tour provides a very enjoyable and well organized experience, varying from historical sites to sand dune tracking and an ultimate Star Wars fan experience at two of movie shooting sites. Dali was a knowledgeable tour guide, keeping the group moving on schedule

True review

The driver picked us up on time, then we went to another hotel where about 45 other people were waiting. A coach arrived and we were seated near the rear of the bus. CONS: During the journey the bus was so hot in the back I complained a few times and was told that we were sitting on the engine thats why it's hot. The air was stale and the sun was shining. The front of the bus seemed fine but the back was stifling hot. The roads outside of the cities were covered in trash. I mean miles and miles of garbage on the side of the road. 800 miles in two days. PROS: the coliseum was nice, 4x4 jeep ride the highlight. Camel ride was okay, had a much better experience in Morocco, but for $15, I can't complain. Hotel at night was decent. You get what you pay for, im happy I did the trip but be warned about the bus and trash

Sublime except...

Beautiful landscapes to see in a lifetime. The sunrise in the desert gave us chills, just for that you really have to do it if you come to Tunisia. However these two days are exhausting, getting up at 4am, long hours by bus, and stops are made to make you spend money. The hotel in Douz is mediocre and the passage to Kairouan is a scam: no visit, a 30-minute stop at a state shop to make you spend your last dinars before you get back on the plane.

To do absolutely!!!!

Very good stay with Hamadi and his driver Love. Beautiful excursions, a top guide, great memories: the camel ride, the 4x4 in the dunes, the couscous of Matmata, the Stars Wars studios, the sunrise over the salt lake, many wild caravans of camels, etc... I highly recommend this experience. Excellent value for money. Send congratulations to Hammadi from the Tunisian and the 2000 camels 😉

The Force is definitely with Mohamed!

Mohamed! ( & the Coach Driver, sorry, can't remember your name - but hope your wedding went well!) That's all you should need to know really. Very professional, very knowledgeable - about a great many things,(not just about Tunisia - & yes knew more about Shakespeare than me), very well organised & very caring - wanting to ensure that everybody on the trip was made to feel welcome & involved. (Especially my younger "sister" - actually my teenage Daughter. Obviously I'm going to say that this trip is well worth it - many things packed into the timetable - including a,(gulp), 4am start on the 2nd morning!! - BUT - well worth it to see the Sunrise at a certain point at the Salt Flats! (& yes, the whole coachload did "forgive him" for the early start after this!) Tourist tick box? All checked. Colosseum,(where Gladiator was actually filmed) - Skywalker/Lars Homestead - Camel Ride in the Sahara - Jeep Ride over the Sand Dunes - Mos Espa (another Star Wars location) - Hotel stay & food provided + the very many stories of both the history of the areas & their current states. Needless to say - very Highly Recommended!
