Kin was a wonderful guide. He knows an incredible amount about Yogyakarta — from its colonial and religious history to migration, language, heritage and even current affairs. What started as a simple walk down Malioboro St turned into a fascinating and really engaging conversation about the city and its people. He was thoughtful, warm and clearly passionate about sharing his knowledge. We learned so much and really enjoyed our time with him.
I really enjoyed this walking tour with Kin. I was the only person on this morning’s tour and Kin made sure to tailor it to my interests. We covered a lot of history - but in fun way, and he also welcomed questions. A super way of getting an overview of Yogyakarta without committing to a full day. Kin also had some great suggestions for other things I should do whilst here. A big recommend from me!

When we first arrive in a new city, we’ve found that a walking tour is a great way to get our bearings and learn more about the place. Yogyakarta was no exception, Our guide, Kin, was friendly, knowledgeable and spoke excellent English—just what we needed, as our Indonesian is non-existent! The pace of the tour was perfect. We didn’t spend hours walking around in the baking sun; instead, Kin made good use of shaded areas, benches and steps to pause and explain more about the history of Indonesia and Yogyakarta. He also gave us plenty of opportunities to ask questions, which made the tour even more informative and interesting. We would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about Indonesian history and discovering Yogyakarta’s fascinating city centre.
It is a great way to be introduced to the history of Yogyakarta along with taking in various sites around the area. Our tour guide Kin was very knowledgeable, personable and friendly. He was very passionate with his explanations and history of Yogyakarta. Great experience overall.

This was a really great introduction to Yogyakarta - Kin (Arief) has a great energy and plenty of knowledge to share about this region and its history. He definitely helped me to step into the shoes of my ancestors as he shared the history of Indonesia with me on this lovely tour
The contact with both the operator and the guide before the tour was excellent. Fortunately for us, we were assigned Kin. Kin arrived a few minutes early with a smile and a very nice energy. From there, things only got BETTER! His English is amazing, so easy to understand and he has obviously studied a lot about his own country….and others. Kin is an excellent tour guide because he is an excellent teacher. We started with some of the basic history of Indonesia, then more specifically Java and Yogyakarta. He took through years of history, always with an open mind, and made it so interesting that the time flew by. We compared notes from our own countries and learned so much!! Not even the heat could stop us from wanting more time to hear Kin’s wisdom. I don’t know if it is possible to request a specific guide, but if you are interested in having a guide who is so well organized and knowledgeable that he can teach you SO MUCH in two hours….request Kin. Seriously one of the best guides we have ever had.
