We loved our experience with Jou Trekking and can't recommend them enough. Rama our guide was very knowledgeable about the hike, and kept us at a good pace to get to the crater rim & summit to see the sunset and relax. As we were on a private tour we could go as quick, or as slow, as we wanted, and I'd really recommend doing a private tour if you can. The tent was super clean and the sleeping bags smelled really fresh. Everything was catered for and we had walking sticks (definitely use them), gloves and a headlamp each too. I'm vegan and they catered to my veganism really well, we had a range of food. I'd just recommend bringing some vegan snacks if you are vegan, but my partner had a huge bag of chocolate, biscuits and more to choose from whenever he was hungry, in addition to all the meals. The trek itself has some challenging parts but if you are determined enough you can do it. You get a really similar view to the Rinjani summit trek, but with a more scenic, less dangerous and less busy trek. At the Mount Sangkaerang summit there was only 10 people at the top for the view, it feels like a bit of a cheat code to get a beautiful sunrise and crater view.

We had the chance to climb Mount Rinjani with Alex, and it was an unforgettable experience! He has always adapted to our pace, with patience and kindness. Always smiling and interesting, he made the climb motivating and rewarding thanks to his explanations and positive energy. A huge thank you also to the porters, without whom this adventure would not have been possible. Their work is admirable: take all the equipment to the top, while ensuring that we are always well settled and well fed. The meals were incredible, each better than the last — a real treat after the effort. Thanks to Alex and the whole team, we will keep engraved memories for life of this magical ascent.
