I'm very reluctant to write a bad review (unlike some people!) but given the significant price charged for this tour ($100+) I have to let you know how the value for money was far worse than similar but memorable food tours taken e.g. in Buenos Aries and Istanbul. The meeting point (a small coffee and wine shop) showed promise, but it was clear that the owner was only interested in sales. The products were good quality, but we were left hanging while he was distracted by other things. Three thimbles of coffee, gin and liquor were provided to taste. Our guide took a back seat, when she should have been more proactive as we were left waiting for the owner to return his attention to us. During our walk around the Ipanema area there were interesting cafes and snack bars, and our guide explained the story behind the food. The piranha stew was particularly interesting, although we all shared one small pot. The low point was the ice cream parlour, where we were given a wooden spatula's taste of a few particular Brazilian flavours. We discussed our favourites, but were then told that if we wanted an ice cream, we could buy one! On a $100+ tour!!! Unfortunately, one stop that our guide highlighted turned out to be closed, but that's life. Between the last two stops we walked half the length of Copacabana beach, before cutting back into the downtown area. Quite a trek with no stops and no background information from our guide unless we asked questions. We had to draw out every bit of information - what people came down to the beach for evening sports classes? was it a place to just stroll along after work, etc. etc. ...... The final stop was a really interesting place and we were given four unusual small dishes to share. Beer was provided (without asking) but the promised caipirinhas failed to materialise. We were then a long way from the start, and were expected to make our own way back. Fortunately, we were close to our hotel, but one person on the tour had to call an Uber. Overall, the impression was of minimising the outlay rather than maximising the experience. A more dynamic and informative approach was really needed.
I had a fantastic time. The guide was knowledgeable and very friendly. You can tell she has a passion for food and the city. Would definitely recommend!

Great food tour and experience! Unfortunately it was only us (couple) and the guide, but Hayza was amazing and made it feel like it was just friends out to enjoy food and drink. She was perfect. The atmosphere was so relaxing and the conversation was so easy and interesting. It was a perfect introduction to Rio and its cuisine despite the rainy weather.
