We were picked up at our ship at the port of Civitavecchia in a minivan on time at the designated location. We had a wonderful day with Alan taking us to Tivoli. Alan gave us the history of Tivoli during the drive and before arrival. He dropped us off so we could self tour Villa D'Este in Tivoli which was an amazing architectural and artistic place with gardens of fountains and the villa full of frescos. Alan walked us through an old town of Tivoli to the Villa Gregoriana ruins with a lunch stop at a wonderful restaurant before driving us back to the cruise ship on time. We did not have time to do a wine tasting stop due to the time limitations of the cruise ship in port, but that is OK since we had wine with lunch at the family owned restaurant Sibilla. Since we have been to both Rome and Civitavecchia before this was a nice alternative while we had a day in port.
