Excellent guide, extremely knowledgeable and patient. How he found or saw what he did was amazing. Thank you Jonatan Laguna for a wonderful day, and night of exploring, we thoroughly enjoyed it. And thank you for taking the time to take the photos through your telescope and share with us. Great day out. ❤️
We hired Jonatan for the day to guide us around. Was brilliant. We weren’t really that bothered about bird spotting but with Kevyn enthusiasm and knowledge, by the end of the day we were hooked! Seeing the resplendent quetzal was fabulous we loved the armadillo and coati - just brilliant. But our favourite was the night tour. Absolutely amazing. We saw scorpion, snake, birds sleeping, leaf cutter ants, stick insect, humming bird nest, tarantula and more. The day starts with two walks, it’s mainly gravelly, sandy paths but also some muddy paths. So good footwear and rain protection is needed, but that also keeps the bugs away. There is a chance for a snack, drink and bathroom break. You can get WiFi reception at the cafes. Otherwise there is no mobile service. After the two walks you have a longer break for a few hours and to get early dinner before the night walk. Strongly recommended.
Jonatan was a fantastic guide. The highlight of the day was when he took us to a bird sanctuary where we could easily spot dozens of unique bird species up close. At least half of the pictures I took from our 3 days of wildlife spotting were from this little visited place. We even saw an armadillo on the side of the road on the way back to Monteverde.
We had a really great day in Monteverde with Jonatan as our guide. As other reviewers have said, we went to 3 locations (Curi Cancha reserve, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Santamaria) ending with a night walk (with a bit of a break in the afternoon). Jonatan has SO much knowledge and shares it really skillfully through the day. We saw and learned things about the fauna and forest that we never would have otherwise. His enthusiasm matched ours with each new bird and animal we saw, which was really fun. He also got some really great photos for us through his scope. Among MANY animals that day, we were lucky enough to see the fabulous Resplendent Quetzal, AND he found a sloth for us at the last second on our night walk (which we had jokingly asked of him that morning!). As others have said, you have to buy entry to the locations separately. I would recommend buying ahead for the Monteverde Cloud Forest - it’s easy to do online. The others were easy to get tickets for when we showed up. If you’re questioning whether it’s worth it to book a private guide or 8-hour tour in Monteverde — my answer is a resounding YES. If you want to more than scratch the surface. I know without a doubt that we had a better experience than if we had just booked a 2-3 hour group tour. And we definitely saw and learned FAR more with a guide than we could have on our own. I definitely recommend Jonatan!
Jonathan was so accommodating! He made sure we were able to see everything on our list! We had a great time! He found several species of birds, monkeys, vipers and more. He is a great guide. He has extensive knowledge of the animals, plants, and ecosystems. Terrific Tour Guide!!!
Jonaton was a delight. The enthusiasm he has for seeing his 1,000,000 Quetzal was nearly as great as mine when seeing my first -- and he kept it up for nearly 8 hours. His breadth and depth of knowledge was just as impressive. He was flexible too. We did the night tour on our day of arrival and went to the other preserves the next day. Shortened up what would have been a long day. But the time flew by (pun intended) and packing it all into a single day would have been every bit as enjoyable.
Our private tour was an absolutely incredible experience! Not only were we able to photograph the splendid Resplendent Quetzal, we also saw many other gorgeous tropical birds, wildlife and breathtakingly beautiful forests and vistas. Jonatan Lopez was an outstanding guide. His keen eye, depth of knowledge, clarity of communication, and patience provided a day exceptional far beyond our expectations. Throughout the tour, he skillfully spotted and identified a variety of elusive species allowing us to photograph birds that would have been nearly impossible to find on our own. He made our tour exciting and educational. We toured the Curi-Cancha Reserve, the Hummingbird Garden at Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and a family owned private reserve, Finca Ecolgica, San Luis, where we also enjoyed a delicious lunch. I can’t recommend Jonatan Lopez’s Private Tour highly enough!
This is a full day adventure with a few hours pause in the afternoon between sites. If you are a 'birdy' this is the tour for you. ALOT of different birds to see among other things. This is a private tour for your group of 2 -10 people. Jonatan is your PRIVATE guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about wildlife, fauna and the ecosystem. A wealth of information as you take the tour. The description of the package is accurate; Jonatan is FLEXIBLE. Tell him if there is anything that interests you more than another. He will accommodate if possible. You will visit 3 different sites. Entry fees are NOT included in the tour price. About 15$, 20$ and 7$ USD per adult respectively. My personal favourite was the night walk, amazing. Big thank you to Jonatan.
We had a private nightwalk and a morning tour of Curi Cancha. We have seen many animals (including green vipers, tarantulas, some smaller insects, white-shouldered capuchin monkeys, various birds and much more). Jonathan told us all sorts of interesting facts about the sighted animals, but he also gave us a lot of information about the plant life to be found here. He took a lot of time and you could feel him doing the tours with enthusiasm. Initially he asked us what we expected from the leadership and what we wanted to see. He went to great lengths to find the animals we mentioned. I can recommend the tour offer of Jonatan to anyone, especially if you do not want to go through the forest with a large group.
We went on a night hike together with family and friends. We saw the most animals on our tour of Costa Rica during this night hike and took the most beautiful shots. Jonathan was a great guide who we would definitely recommend.
