Taking a day to tour fort Jesus, old town and spice market is a must do when you visit Mombasa, learn the history, the culture, food, taste some fruits and snacks at the spice market, try madafu as you walk through old town, drink coffee grown and brewed in kenya! It’s a day full of exciting activities . Perfect for history and culture lovers, soko, family, group and slow travellers.
With the renovations on going, it is still a good place to visit. Some areas are close, but you get the feeling of what it would be like living in the fort at the time. You can learn so much here.
As a tour operator, I highly recommend Fort Jesus for history enthusiasts and those looking to explore Kenya’s rich heritage. Located in Mombasa, this UNESCO World Heritage site offers a fascinating glimpse into the country’s colonial and military history. Built in the 16th century by the Portuguese to protect their trade route, the fort showcases exhibits on Kenya’s diverse cultures, the Portuguese presence in East Africa, and the history of the Swahili coast. The stunning views of Mombasa’s coastline and the fort’s well-preserved architecture make it a must-visit. A trip to Fort Jesus is an immersive historical experience, ideal for travelers seeking to understand Kenya’s coastal past and enjoy a beautiful setting.
Took a trip to Fort Jesus with my wife, and wow, what a tour! The place is packed with history and epic views, and those old walls really do have stories to tell. We had a great guide who made it all come alive. 10/10 would go back again!
My wife, two friends, and I had an amazing time exploring Fort Jesus! The rich history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking ocean views made it a must-visit in Mombasa. Walking through the old fort, hearing stories of battles and trade, and seeing the well-preserved artifacts gave us a real glimpse into the past. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging, making the experience even more interesting. If you love history and culture, Fort Jesus is definitely worth a visit!
