Jan Thiel is located on the southeastern side of Curaçao, while the beautiful beaches and most of the natural highlights included in our tour are located on the western side of the island. This naturally means a longer drive for guests staying in Jan Thiel. As an additional service, we offer complimentary hotel pickup and drop-off to all of our guests, including those staying in Jan Thiel. This is something we provide for convenience, so our guests don’t need to arrange a taxi, rental car, or transportation to a central meeting point. Depending on the hotel location, traffic, and the number of pickup points on a particular day, the total duration can therefore be longer than the actual tour itself. We understand that this was not what you expected when booking a half-day experience, and we appreciate your feedback. We will take this into consideration and look at how we can communicate the additional transfer time more clearly in the future. However, we would like to clarify one important point regarding your expectation of a boat trip. This excursion is a land-based tour followed by snorkeling directly from the beach. A boat trip is neither mentioned nor advertised anywhere in our tour description, nor is it part of this excursion. Our guests are transported to the snorkeling location and enter the water directly from the beach to experience the sea turtles in their natural environment. We would also like to clarify the comment regarding the “flotation devices.” There is an important difference between snorkeling vests and traditional life jackets. For snorkeling from the beach, we intentionally provide snorkeling vests, which offer additional buoyancy and support while still allowing guests the freedom of movement needed for snorkeling. Traditional life jackets are primarily designed as safety equipment for passengers on boats and are generally much less suitable for active snorkeling. As this is not a boat tour, there is also no need to carry full marine safety equipment such as 15–20 traditional life jackets. Apart from being unnecessary for this type of activity, transporting such equipment would require considerable additional space. Instead, we provide the appropriate flotation aids and snorkeling equipment specifically intended for this experience. Our guides accompany guests to the snorkeling area, provide safety instructions, assist when needed, and help ensure that the sea turtles are observed respectfully and from an appropriate distance. We make every effort to describe our excursions as accurately as possible so guests know what is included before booking. Naturally, it is impossible to list everything that is not included in an excursion. If a boat trip is neither advertised nor mentioned in the itinerary, it should not be assumed to be part of the booked experience. We are sorry that you personally had a different expectation of the excursion. However, for future guests reading this review, we would like to make it clear that this tour is not, and has never been, advertised as a boat tour.
