Overseas Adventure travel reserved this sailboat for our group of 11 people for five days sailing from Aswan to Luxor. It was wonderful. Very relaxing. Anything you w Ted they provided. Excellent meals & fantastic staff.
This was a once in a lifetime experience...( although I am already considering another trip though...!) We had privatised a 5 cabins , just for 2 person.. we had a private guide who stayed with us and guided us through the various attractions along the Nile... But the most amazing part was the crew...!!! No words could describe the professionalism, courtesy, discreet and heart warming crew... our waiter , Mohamed would reach for the moon to please us... there somehow managed to set us a romantic dinner on a small island in the middle of the Nile...!!! And what a feast ..!!
We had a 4 night cruise from Edna to Aswan on a dahabiya. This was a very relaxing way to sail on the Nile. We only technically sailed for a few hours a couple of times because there wasn’t enough wind but we were tugged by a quiet boat. There were 13 total guests on the Amoura. The food was very good, salads and fresh fruits, pita bread, fresh fish from the Nile, chicken, etc. with wine and beer to purchase. Our private tour guide from Luxor and Aswan Travel stayed on board and he said the food was good Egyptian fare. There was a crew of 9 on board that took care of us and the boat. As to the boat itself, the trim on the canopy was tattered but the furniture was comfortable and well cared for. The top deck was really lovely and we spent almost all of our time there when we weren’t visiting sights. The bedrooms on the lower level were small with very little storage available (soft, foldable luggage would be ideal). The biggest issue was the tiny bathroom. The shower was small and never drained correctly, they had a pedestal sink so no place to put stuff, and it just seemed tired. I don’t know how to improve the bathroom without getting rid of some of the other bedrooms. Anyway, don’t expect luxury in the bedroom or bathroom but since the weather and the views are spectacular on the deck, you will want to spend all of your time there. There is no nightlife onboard, it is quiet and we docked at quiet spots not next to rows of the other loud cruise ships. I thought the Nile was actually pretty clean looking but there are some insects such as gnats, flies and mosquitoes as you would expect by the river. Just bring bug spray but they really weren’t terrible. I highly recommend a dahabiya sail on the Nile. I wasn’t afraid ever in Egypt. I was more nervous in Athens!
