旅程
大運河はヴェネツィアの主要な水路です（長さ約 4 km）。大運河は逆 S 字型をしており、市内を 2 つの部分に分割し、それぞれが 3 つの地区をグループ化しています。大運河の幅は 30 ～ 70 メートルで、深さは最大 5 メートルです。大運河には 4 つの橋がかかっており、最も古いのはリアルト橋 (1591 年) です。大運河にかかる他の 3 つの橋は、スカルツィ橋、アカデミア橋、そして最後に建築家カラトラバによって設計されたコンスティテューション橋 (2008 年 9 月 11 日開通) です。この有名な運河の流れをたどって、ユニークな都市の秘密を発見してください。
リアルト橋は、大運河にある 4 つの橋の中で最も古い橋です。建築と歴史の両方で有名です。長年にわたり、ここはヴェネツィア経済の中心でした。 「リアルト」という名前は、イタリア語で「深い運河」を意味する「Rivus altus」に由来しており、洪水のない地域であることを示しています。 橋の構造は以前の橋と同様で、2 回崩壊し、さまざまな機会に焼かれました。中央の柱廊玄関で接続された 2 つの傾斜した傾斜路で構成されています。 リアルト橋を渡ると、果物や野菜が売られるカラフルな場所、リアルト マーケットに到着します。マーケットの起源は古く、1097 年からこの場所で開催されています。

もともとこの建物はドゥカーレ宮殿の増築となるはずでした。サン マルコ大聖堂の最初の建設は 828 年に始まり、市の守護者としてアレクサンドリアから持ち込まれた使徒聖マルコの遺体を安置するために 832 年に終了しました。 現在の大聖堂の建設は、繁栄したヴェネツィア共和国の力を表すためにビザンチン様式で 1063 年に始まりました。この大聖堂は、古代帝国都市ビザンチウムの 2 つの大聖堂のモデルを尊重して建てられました。中央の計画はギリシャ十字の形をしており、5 つの大きなドームがあり、古代と東洋の芸術が特別に融合されています。その結果、スタイルの見事な組み合わせが生まれました。
ドゥカーレ宮殿は、おそらく 10 世紀から 11 世紀にかけて、要塞化された中心核に基づいて建設されました。最初の改修は 12 世紀にドゥジェ セバスティアーノ ツィアーニによって行われ、要塞はエレガントな宮殿に生まれ変わりました。 バルトロメオ グラデニーゴの治世中の 1339 年から 1342 年にかけて、宮殿は現在の形になり始めました。ドージェ フランチェスコ フォスカリは 1424 年にサン マルコ大聖堂に達するまで宮殿を拡張しました。 17 世紀初頭、建築家アントニオ コンティンは、運河を越えて新しい刑務所を追加し、囚人が新しい刑務所に向かう途中に通るため息橋で宮殿に接続しました。 1797 年、ヴェネツィア共和国崩壊後、宮殿は行政機関の所在地として改修されました。
サン マルコ鐘楼はヴェネツィアの街のシンボルの 1 つです。ベネチア人は愛情を込めて彼を「El parón de casa（家の主人）」と呼びます。 高さ 98.6 メートルで、イタリアで最も高い鐘楼の 1 つです。大聖堂の前のサンマルコ広場に堂々と立っています。シンプルな形で、一辺 12 メートル、高さ約 50 メートルの溝付きレンガ樽で構成されており、その上にアーチ型の鐘楼があります。鐘楼の上にはサイコロがあり、その面には2頭の歩くライオンとヴェネツィアの女性像（正義）が交互に描かれています。すべてはピラミッド型の尖塔によって完成され、その頂上には風向計として機能する回転台の上に大天使ガブリエルの黄金の像が取り付けられています。建物の基部、大聖堂に面した側はサンソヴィーノのロッジアによって装飾されています。
ため息橋はヴェネツィアの歴史的中心部、サン マルコ広場のすぐ裏手にあり、市内で唯一完全に閉鎖されている橋です。現在では、この橋は「恋人の橋」としても知られています。永遠の愛を宣言するには、ゴンドラに乗って橋の下でキスをしなければならないという言い伝えがあります。 しかし、橋の本当の歴史は大きく異なります。橋がドゥカーレ宮殿とプリジョーニ宮殿を結んでいたという事実は偶然ではありません。実際、それは囚人を法廷から刑務所へ、またその逆に移動させるための安全通路として機能しました。

Monica was wonderful. The tour was well organized with an interesting overview of Venezia. Monica even recommended a place we should stay for lunch. She went above and beyond to accommodate our departure from Venice to Rome, which was delayed due to bad weather and an elevator brake down in the St Mark’s Bell Tower.

We had a fantastic experience. Our guide, Monica, had all the logistical details of the trip covered with plenty of time built in for anything we needed.
