I really enjoyed this tour and found it a very interesting cultural experience. Pickup was easy, followed by about a 40-minute drive to Kampong Phluk. Our guide was actually from the village, which added a lot to the experience. The boat trip through the village was fascinating, especially seeing how the houses are built so high above the changing water levels and how completely life here revolves around the lake. I also really enjoyed the smaller canoe ride through the mangroves with local women. It cost 22,000 riel and I was happy knowing the money went directly into the community. There are definitely confronting aspects too, including the poverty and pollution, but that is part of seeing the reality of the area. My only frustration was an unexpected 40–45 minute stop at a floating restaurant, which made the tour run later than expected. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.

Had a great experience! Our guide Tom was excellent! He is from the community and explained about the life there, not from a textbook but based on his real life stories. Learned a lot. This was a very eye opening experience, seeing how people live in rural Cambodia. Our tour guide, Tom, was amazing! Great English, super chatty and had so much interesting information about the village, in which he’s actually from. The boat ride was brilliant, and the canoe trip really added to the overall day.

Tom was an amazing tour guide, and it was great to see a local so enthusiastic about explaining the way of life and giving a tour of the town. Be prepared that there is an addition trip on a small boat that is extra, but still worth it!

Very eye opening, beautiful place and a lot to see. Tom was very friendly and helpful too. It was great that he’s from the village so can actually talk from experience instead of just ‘another tour guide’.
