John and Monica welcomed us warmly and taught us the secrets of making the perfect dim sum.John's dinner was delicious and accompanied by interesting and fun stories about his Mauritian and Canadian family/culture. It was such a pleasure to spend an evening with this lovely couple. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your Mauritian dim sum cooking class in Montreal with John and Monica. Sharing the secrets of traditional Mauritian recipes, along with stories about their blended family and culture, is something they truly love to do. It was a pleasure having you in their kitchen, and we’re so glad you enjoyed the food, the hands-on experience, and the warm hospitality. We hope to welcome you back for another fun and delicious Traveling Spoon cooking class, either in Montreal or anywhere around the world soon!
The host, John Chung, welcomed us & gave hands on cooking instructions. He also educated us about his home country, Mauritius.
Dear Stephanie, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a lovely review. We are so glad you had an immersive and engaging cultural and culinary experience with our hosts John and Monica during your cooking class in Montreal! We hope to welcome you again soon.
Both of the Chungs were incredible people! We visited on our honeymoon and so appreciated the whole experience. We stayed extra long after dinner to just continue talking to them!! We so enjoyed our time and would strongly recommend anyone who is looking for this sort of experience to book now!
We reserved dinner and paid in advance, long before the agreed date. Six days before the dinner date I sent a message via Traveling Spoon and immediately got a boilerplate email from them advising that John went on holiday and the dinner was canceled. So, I wonder: 1) how long ago were the host's plans changed? And 2) why couldn't someone tell us? All in all, pretty lame. Is a boilerplate email the best Traveling Spoon could do?
Dear guest, We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with your booking. We understand how frustrating it must have been to have your reservation canceled on short notice, especially after booking and paying in advance. Unfortunately, the host had to go on holiday, and we regret that this was not communicated sooner. We are reviewing our communication process to ensure that guests are notified immediately in the future and that cancellations are handled more personally. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve our service, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to another cooking experience soon.
An absolutely amazing experience and SUCH delicious food. John was incredibly kind and a very talented cook - he accommodated both a gluten free person and vegetarian and made the best tofu I have ever had. It was such a joy to talk with him and his daughter. He has such a passion for cooking and it was obvious from the taste of his food that he pours his heart into what he cooks. 10/10 would recommend.
We loved our time with John and his wife Monica. The food was amazing and the hosts even better. John did a great job of accomodating my son's wheat allergy. My kids also loved the experience. My son said he loved how welcoming they were and my daughter loved the food.
