Well worth booking, buggies were fun. Full packed day some lack of communication with transfers with guides at the outset but improved. Take plenty of own drinks if you don't want to spend premium prices at the stop locations. Definitely recommend

This was a great way to see Gozo. It definitely was all day adventure. The communication was good and pick up point was simple to find. So apparently this company has earned 4.8/5 on Tripadvisor and 4.9/5 on Google. How, exactly, remains something of a mystery to me. My girlfriend and I are frequent travellers (with 20+ flights within the past 12 month) who normally plan everything ourselves, but with only one day available for Gozo, we decided to give Yippee a try. We chose a buggy rather than an ATV, mainly for a little shade from the sun. The problems started before the tour even began. We were given the name of a pharmacy as a pickup point, but no address. Being unfamiliar with the area, we couldn’t find the correct one and nearly missed the tour (being yelled at through the phone by the pickup driver should have been our first clue that skipping this tour might have been the better option). Fortunately, we had a rental car and arranged to meet them at the Gozo ferry instead. The boat ride was rather chaotic, and on arrival the roughly 45 passengers were split into groups in a fairly disorganised manner. We were then put into a van and left waiting for passengers from another boat. In 32°C heat, sitting stationary in a van without air conditioning was hardly an ideal start. Eventually we reached what was essentially a barn housing the vehicles. We were told to pick a helmet from a shelf containing a collection of rather worn and unpleasant-smelling examples. As an inconsequential gesture we were given an extremely thin disposable cap to wear underneath. Then came the actual driving. I have driven ATVs and UTVs in places such as Costa Rica and the Philippines, so I’m certainly not unfamiliar with this type of activity. Unfortunately, the condition of the buggy was genuinely concerning. The steering, brakes and suspension all felt far from what I would consider professionally maintained. We were nevertheless reminded that crashing could result in a €450 charge — which is particularly reassuring when you’re questioning whether the brakes are up to the task. The website advertises a “small convoy”. Ten ATVs/buggies with one or two people in each is, in my opinion, stretching the definition of “small”, and adding to this we did on several occasions meet up with the other “small” groups resulting in some 45-50 people at the same site, including lunch. From fairly early on, my girlfriend and I stopped enjoying ourselves and started wondering how long we would have to endure the experience. We even discussed abandoning the tour if we reached the ferry during the day, but unfortunately that wasn’t an option. Overall, we found the tour extremely uncomfortable and disappointing. I appreciate that people have different expectations, and clearly many customers have enjoyed it — hence the impressive ratings. Perhaps we’re simply not the target audience. But if you value independence, smaller groups and proper equipment, I would think twice before booking this one.

However, we feel it is important to correct several points, because a number of statements in your review simply do not reflect what actually happened. Regarding the pickup: All guests receive clear pickup instructions, including the location, and these are sent in advance. You were provided with the same information as every other participant that day. The pickup point is clearly marked on Google Maps, and the instructions were sent to you 24 hours before the tour. The fact that you had difficulty locating it does not make the instructions unclear. Indeed, the other guests managed to arrive at the designated pickup point on time. Regarding the boat crossing: Calling the crossing “chaotic” is difficult for us to understand. The boat you travelled on is fully licensed to carry 62 passengers and had 55 passengers on board — well within its certified capacity. On arrival in Gozo, another boat arrived approximately eight minutes later. You were waiting for those passengers to join the transfer, and during those eight minutes you were sitting in an air-conditioned van, contrary to the impression created by your review that you were left sitting in an unair-conditioned vehicle for a prolonged period in 32°C heat. Regarding our garage: Yes, our garage is located on a farm outside the villages. This is intentional. It gives us a controlled environment in which we can assess participants’ driving abilities and provide the necessary briefing before entering public roads and traffic. We consider this an important safety measure, not a shortcoming. Regarding the €450 insurance excess: The review makes the €450 charge sound as though this is some arbitrary amount we impose on customers. That is not the case. The €450 is the insurance excess required to open a claim in the event of an accident. This information was clearly provided to you in the terms and conditions sent the day before the tour. To be absolutely clear: we do not pocket this €450. It is the excess imposed under our insurance policy. If, God forbid, a participant causes several thousand euros worth of damage, the €450 is the applicable insurance excess for opening the claim. Regarding the condition of the vehicles and helmets: We strongly disagree with your characterisation of our equipment as poorly maintained or unsafe. None of our vehicles are more than three years old, and they are maintained as part of our operational safety procedures. The helmets are EU-compliant and, at the time of your tour, were approximately eight months old. We replace helmets every 18 months. We also provide every participant, free of charge, with a disposable hair net for hygiene reasons. Describing this as an “inconsequential gesture” overlooks the fact that it is one of the measures we take specifically to maintain hygiene when equipment is shared between participants. Regarding the size of the convoy: Our definition of a “small convoy” is 6–10 vehicles. This is not a convoy of 45–50 vehicles travelling together. More importantly, our safety system includes both a lead guide and a dedicated safety officer at the rear of the convoy. This is an important safety precaution which your review does not mention. At certain points during the day, different groups may naturally arrive at the same locations, particularly at designated stops and lunch. That does not mean that 45–50 people are travelling together as one convoy. We fully accept that not every experience is suited to every traveller. Some guests prefer complete independence and a self-guided experience; our tours are structured differently, with guides, safety procedures, organised transfers and designated stops. What we cannot accept, however, is the suggestion that our equipment, procedures or organisation are unsafe or careless when the facts and the measures we have in place tell a very different story. We respect your opinion and your right to have disliked the experience. But we believe future customers deserve to see the full picture, rather than conclusions based on misunderstandings or omissions of important information. We are proud of the thousands of guests who have enjoyed our tours, and we will continue to put safety, maintenance and the overall guest experience at the centre of what we do
