First, we thank you for taking the time to write a review and we're so pleased to hear that you found your tour guide to be such a fabulous delight! As to the cancellation due to weather...We're very sorry for this last-minute closure of the copper mine. The mine is located high in the Oquirrh Mountains and because of it's sheer size, as the world's largest manmade hole, it is actually so big that it generates its own weather patterns distinct from the cities in Salt Lake Valley below. Decisions on closing the mine to the public are made at the last minute and the copper mine doesn't choose to notify anyone in advance, they simply just close the moment they feel concerned for the safety of visitors. We do find their lack of communication just as frustrating as you do but it is a courtesy for them to allow the public inside their active mine, so we try to be understanding. Fortunately for many of our guests, weather closures are quite rare during the summer season as we don't receive much rain--Utah being the second driest state in the country. Only a handful of days all summer have experienced such weather closures. We are saddened that the weather prevented you from seeing this world-famous engineering marvel and hope for better weather on your next visit to Salt Lake City.

We're saddened to hear that you didn't enjoy your tour of the copper mine. Please call or email us so we can hear more about your experience. It is indeed possible to see the copper mine on a self-guided experience if you pay a fee and travel the 55-minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City. For those who prefer a self-guided style of touring where you do the research and reading on your own, that could be the way to go. However for those without access to a car and who prefer a fully-narrated guided tour experience from doorstep to doorstep, we hope you'll consider us. Our local guides have a vast knowledge of not only the copper mine's history/science/operations but also of the local history you'll hear on the near two hours of roundtrip driving for the copper mine. We always keep the copper mine tour groups small and personal, you'll have the opportunity to ask the guides your questions rather than fumble through endless Google searches on your phone. Generally most people prefer the guided tour experience but indeed there are some who prefer the go-it-alone approach to sightseeing. Thank you for touring with us!
