In addition to the coffee stops you get to explore a really quaint neighbourhood and learn about the area.
Amazing. I enjoy coffee, coming from Melbourne Australia, and loved this tour. The coffee was delicious. Shawn (tour guide) was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about coffee but also the local areas and history. Book this now!!!
I had a wonderful time on this Tokyo coffee tour in Kitasenju. Sean was a great guide and made the experience feel relaxed, interesting, and personal from start to finish. What I really enjoyed was that the tour was about much more than just coffee. Sean shared fascinating stories about Kitasenju’s history and the character of the neighborhood as we walked through streets and areas I probably would have missed on my own. The coffee stops were also thoughtfully chosen, and it was fun to try different styles of coffee while learning more about the local area and the people connected to it. It was a great way to experience a different side of Tokyo, combining good coffee, local history, and neighborhood exploration. I would definitely recommend Sean’s tour to anyone who enjoys coffee, history, or discovering places beyond the usual tourist spots.
Highly recommend this wonderful coffee tour that does a great job of getting you away from the high tourist areas. It was refreshing to take in the tour surrounded by locals while learning so much about the history that made the area a coffee destination. Every shop was lovely and had their own unique vibes. Can’t recommend this tour enough.
This was honestly one of the highlights of my time in Tokyo. If you love coffee—or even if you just enjoy getting off the beaten path and experiencing a more local side of the city—I can’t recommend this tour enough. Our guide, Sean, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about coffee and the local area. You could tell this wasn’t just a tour they were going through the motions of—it felt personal, relaxed, and authentic. There was plenty of great conversation, interesting stories, and, of course, some seriously good coffee! I also loved discovering cafés and places that I probably never would have found on my own. It felt like being shown around Tokyo by a friend who happens to know an absurd amount about coffee. If you’re visiting Tokyo and want something beyond the usual tourist experience, do this tour. Great coffee, great conversation, fascinating local history, and a really memorable few hours. 10/10 — absolutely recommended! ☕🇯🇵
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! Reading this completely made my day. That feeling of exploring Tokyo like old friends while sharing great stories over incredible coffee is exactly what I strive to create on every single walk. Tokyo’s specialty coffee scene is hidden in the quietest, most unexpected neighborhood pockets, so introducing you to tucked-away spots you wouldn’t have stumbled upon on your own was an absolute treat. Thank you again for spending part of your Tokyo trip with me. Whenever you find yourself back in Japan, the next pour-over is on me!
This was an amazing trip for me and my friends. The tour guide took us to 4 interesting coffee establishments as well as some local culture stops. He was very knowledgeable about coffee as well as the local history, even back to the EDO period. I learned a lot about local history and coffee and highly recommend this tour. At the end the guide even helped us pick out some coffee that best suited our tastes to roast and bring home with us! He spoke fluent English and Japanese so do not feel afraid to use this tour. 10/10. Will do again when I come back to Japan!
Thank you so much for the fantastic review! It was an absolute pleasure exploring Tokyo’s coffee scene with you and your friends. Bridging modern specialty coffee with the historic roots of the Edo period is one of my favorite parts of this walk, and I’m thrilled you enjoyed discovering those hidden local spots. Helping you select and roast beans tailored to your personal taste was a highlight. I hope brewing them at home brings back great memories of your time in Japan. Making every guest feel comfortable and immersed without worrying about language barriers is always my priority. Thank you again for joining us, and I look forward to showing you more great cafes on your next trip to Tokyo!
My tour guide, Sean, did an interesting blend of local history walking tour with artisan coffee and snacks. It was so cool! The history part of it covered points of interest in Kita-Senju which was apparently a major stop on the historic Nikko Kaido route during the Edo period. The coffee portion was as good if not even better! Sean must have had some serious training in coffee culture and the industry at large. I think it was almost even better for me, a mid level coffee fan, to get a real crash course in roasting techniques and how to analyze different styles and flavor profiles. We did what I would call a high end fancy coffee shop and then also a cool retro themed one. We ended with a place that roasts green beans to your specific specifications, which Sean helped as far as recommendations. So at the end of the tour I had a bag of primo bag of beans! Awesome souvenir from my time in Japan!
Thank you so much for this absolutely incredible review! I am beyond thrilled that you had such a great time exploring Kita-Senju and diving into the rich Edo-period history of the Nikko Kaido route with me. I also had an absolute blast geeking out over the coffee with you! It is always a treat to share my passion for the craft, whether we are talking about precision brewing mechanics or analyzing unique flavor profiles. I am so glad you enjoyed the contrast between the high end specialty shop and the classic retro vibe, as well as the roasting crash course. Helping you dial in those custom specifications for your green beans was a highlight of the day. Enjoy every sip of that souvenir, and I hope it brings back amazing memories of your time in Japan. Safe travels!
Fantastic tour fantastic guide l would highly recommend this to anyone wishing to explore Tokyo and taste some fabulous coffee
Thank you so much for the fantastic review! I am thrilled to hear you had such a great time exploring Tokyo and tasting some fabulous local coffee. It was truly a pleasure being your guide. Wishing you good coffee everywhere you wander!
Great tour. Highly recommended Sean was very knowledgeable Definitely a must do 10/10
Thank you so much for the 10/10 review! It was an absolute pleasure guiding you through Senju. Unlocking the 400 year history of our historic Edo post-town and connecting it to the local specialty coffee scene is the core of what we do at Tokyo Coffee Tours. Safe travels on your journey, and welcome back to Adachi anytime!
I thought I knew Coffee, Sean is a master of his craft and knows the area so well. We went to three different cafes and they were all so different! I didn't knoe Japan's cafe culture was so nuanced. On the walks between cafes Sean told us about the area and it made me realise that there was so much more going on that I first noticed! Brilliant time, highly recommend. Thank you!
Thank you for such a thoughtful review! As a coffee roaster and educator, nothing is more rewarding than showing guests the deep, hidden nuances of Japanese coffee culture—from the rich, smoky profile of a Showa-era kissaten to the technical precision of modern Adachi roasting. I’m thrilled that the historical street lore made the neighborhood come alive for you. Wishing you many more incredible cups ahead!
