Bauska Castle, is set in a absolutely beautiful environment, between two rivers, bordered by lots of trees and other foliage, The castle itself has older ruins, companioned with sections that have been more recently renovated.
Rundale Palace, is very similar to Versailles Palace in France, both in architecture and place settings of the individual rooms. The gardens are magnificent, planted with newer plants, but also historic roses that only bloom once a year.
Of the two places we visited, I would choose Bauska Castle for its historical value and Rundale for the outstanding gardens.

Bauska Castle and Rundale Palace are worth visiting for their historical interest and architectural value. Traveling with Janis made getting there seamless and he provided additional context and history of the Latvian people and society.

Castle and Palace from Riga
The guide, Janis was great. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The castle and palace were amazing. Even though it was a rainy day we had a great time.
