Greg is an amazing host with a vast amount of whisky experience. We are pretty novice when it comes to whisky, and he managed to meet us on our level. We had an unforgettable evening and wish Greg all the best of luck with his new location!

My son, nephew, and I had a fantastic time with Greg during our Kyoto whisky tasting experience. What stood out most wasn’t just the whisky itself, but Greg’s knowledge, passion, and ability to create a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. He introduced us to several Japanese whiskies we likely would never have discovered on our own, and some of them ended up being among the best spirits we’ve tasted during our trip to Japan. The tasting felt personal rather than scripted. We enjoyed learning about the history, production methods, regional differences, and unique characteristics that make Japanese whisky so respected around the world. Greg was incredibly approachable, answered every question we had, and made the experience enjoyable whether you’re a seasoned whisky enthusiast or just beginning to explore Japanese whisky. Beyond the drinks, the conversation and hospitality made the afternoon memorable. It felt less like a tour and more like spending time with a knowledgeable friend who genuinely loves sharing Japanese whisky with others. If you’re visiting Kyoto and have any interest in whisky, I highly recommend this experience. It was one of the highlights of our time in the city. Thank you again, Greg, for a wonderful afternoon. What a great experience. I am a big Whisky fan, and I was looking to taking a bottle of Japanese Whisky back with me. I really wanted to keep away of the big Japanese brands as you can find them quite easily outside Japan, and I really wanted to try some that are not well known outside Japan. This whisky tasting with Greg was exactly what I was expecting, it gave me the opportunity to taste and also to learn a little about each distillery and the history of Whisky in Japan. Greg was able to accommodate us on a quite short notice. I was able to buy one of the bottles I tried on the shop he recommended. If you are looking to buy some whisky in Japan and you are in Kyoto I highly recommend doing this tasting experience.

The tasting line up was excellent and Greg was a wonderful host — warm, thoughtful and passionate about Japanese whisky and other spirits. He went above and beyond to make our experience enjoyable and memorable, even taking extra time to give us great recommendations for bars to visit in the area. Even with one of us being a non-drinker, it was a fascinating, fun and educational experience; the time just flew by. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique and personal Kyoto experience.

I had a great time exploring Japanese whisky with Greg. He was very experienced and knowledgeable about whisky, and set up the tasting perfectly. The selection (5 + 1 bonus) of whisky’s was great. They all had something unique and interesting, and I appreciated that he included some smaller newer distilleries that I would never come across back home.

I’ve attended wine tastings before, but this Japanese whisky experience in Kyoto was on a completely different level - and I mean that in the best possible way. Greg, the host, went above and beyond before the evening even began. My dates in Kyoto didn’t align with his regular schedule, and he graciously arranged a private session just for me. That kind of hospitality set the tone for everything that followed. Over the course of six unique single malts, Greg guided me through the stories behind each distillery, their history, distinctive methods, and the nuances that make every pour unique. He has a rare gift: deep expertise worn lightly. You leave feeling genuinely educated, not lectured to. The selection was thoughtful and beautifully curated - each whisky a new discovery, each one building on the last. And the conversation was as memorable as the whisky itself. What set this apart was the warmth of it all. Greg is a natural storyteller and a gracious host, and the evening felt less like a ticketed event and more like being invited into the home of someone who truly loves what they do. Highly, highly recommend. One of those rare experiences you’re thinking about for days.

Fantastic experience! Would totally recommend this to any whisky lover. Host Greg was very passionate and knowledgeable about whisky, discussing history, ingredients, whisky-making techniques and even whisky controversies. The location is a little off the beaten path, but totally worth it. Located in a traditional Japanese building in a quiet neighbourhood, with big windows looking out to a tiny but beautiful garden, the atmosphere amplified the experience. 5 samples were laid out when I arrived, and Greg shared 2 additional bonus selections, including a rare single cask malt. I went out and bought a bottle of the Fuji single malt the same day. A+ all the way. Thank you, Greg!

We had an awesome experience at Greg’s whiskey tasting - he is knowledgeable, articulate, and effortlessly made us appreciate the finer points about Japanese whiskeys. Over a casual and relaxed conversation, he arranged for us to taste half a dozen whiskeys with his insightful comments - my favorite was the Miyagikyo single malt 10 (non-peaty). I would highly Greg’s whiskey tasting! 👍
